Do you have to live near a yard? When you're on your 14, do you sleep in the truck between jobs?

When u get called out for a cement job, u have an hour to report to the yard so I guess living near would be ideal...

and yes, depending where ure at on the call out list, u either sleep in the truck on location or drive to a truck stop and sleep in truck...once u finish a job, u get placed at the bottom of list and move up based on how busy it is...if ure like last on the list, we usually go home...

Would you say one job is more labor intensive than the other (cement vs. frac)?

Well our rig up takes about 1 hr to 1hr and a half or less...fracs rig up takes hours and use 4 in iron I believe. We use 2 in iron...frac has anywhere from 10 to 20 hands on site. .cement has 3 if urs a surface job or 6-8 on a production job...I guess both have their pros and cons

Thanks for all the great info. That's true both have their pros and cons. I'm still deciding on which to apply to first once the time comes.

I am new to a frac crew and last night we rigged down takes about 5 or more hours. We have around 20 guys and break into groups to rigged diwn. Some do all the hoses and some the iron. The other guys work the crane and lift the really heavy stuff. It is labor intensive but you will get used to it and you only do it about once a week or even once every hitch. My first time rigging down I was so exhausted and felt like giving up lol. Been here 4 weeks now. But on other days is pretty easy work just long hours.

Well the 1 hour response kinda puts me off on the cement side. With frac, do you have the same restriction? Great info everyone, Thanks.
