I'm told you sign up for it through the employer and it takes several weeks for it to get processed, it gets back dated to the date you originally filed. Then like any government process, you sit and wait
Bass Ackwards Bo Thanks this. -
Like gunner 75 said you sign up for it when you go to work then it goes to the VA it takes about 60 days to be approved but you get back pay so when you get your first check it will be for 3 months then every month after that. Hope this helps kevin

Thanks to both of you.

I'm right there with ya! I've been having a tough time trying to decide between a couple of of companies....Stevens, Southern Refrigerated Transport (SRT), Super Service (SS)....Stevens has the great trucks, but the pay sucks...so I'm hoping that the miles they told me, which was 3000/wk, pan out. Not a big fan of all the money I have to shell out for them without reimbursement (Passport/hazmat = $350-$400)....the other companies reimburse for that, but I've been hard pressed to find a whole lot of good words about SRT or SS..... Super Service is .31 CPM with 2200-2600 mi/wk with a $1000 sign-on bonus, but trucks are so-so.... SRT is .29 cpm with a .01 bonus for hazmat and another .01 cpm bonus for tanker so .032 cpm with 2600-3000 mi/wk...but I don't think I found 5 people with a positive thing to say on this site about SRT.......
So it looks like I'll be keeping my scheduled orientation with Stevens for 05 Oct 14...... -
No matter which one you choose as your first company, stick with it for a full 4 seasons, 12 months. At the end of it, if you're still looking for the greener grass, you'll be more attractive to the grass owner no matter what they haul. And more confident in your own skills.

That's the plan.....I've seen FAR better companies out there, but they want 1-2 yrs OTR exp before they'll even talk to you.
Thanks! -
think you should plan on more like 22-2500 miles in the beginning. 3,000 is stretching it.
