I think the new pay package for new hires is going to run some drivers off. If implememted as it has been explained to me. In Oct of 2015 a one year company driver will be paid more than a two year company driver and the same as a three year company driver.

I think I see some resentment on the horizon.

 

Does it go above the 26 cpm level?

 

Yes, starting pay will increse to .28 first 6 mons, then .30, .31, and to .32 cpm at the 1 year mark

 

The problem is at the one year mark, the driver will be making what a 3 year driver makes and will also be making and more than a 2 year driver hired under the old plan.

In other words this change will only affect new hires and those who have been driving will stay at the same rate.

For example by July of 2015, a 9 month driver will be making more than a 23 month driver.

Good for them, not so good for the rest of us.

 

Wow. It's good to up the pay, but they really should do it for across the board. Everybody should get the pay raises. Years ago, the airlines tried so-called B-Scale salaries. it didn't work so well for them in the long run, either.

 

Sounds like what Emul has been saying for years: Stevens is a training company and they make no bones about it.

 

There is no question that training is the main focus, this leaves no doubt, but I don't think there is another company, even a training company that pays its new drivers more than its experienced ones.

Obviously this is in response to a problem attracting new students, other companies offer more, but it still seems a half assed way to address it. There is still freight that needs to he moved.

As I have always said though, I was looking when I found this job, and I'll be looking when I find the next one too.
