There are many experienced drivers at werner... I have met drivers with well over 10 years experience. .. in fact just today at the terminal I got to meet Charles Endorf who has over 5 million safe miles with werner... even had a truck stop named after him in honor of that accoplishment. .. I also got to meet a driver with 3 million safe miles with werner today....

While werner does train.. they are more than just a training company and with all the hundreds of accounts they have many experienced drivers can find one that suits them and where they can make good money..

I am still a rookie and it has been awhile since I have had a paycheck less than $1000 for the week.. and that is take home... after taxes and deductions..... and that is as a solo driver... and no, not as a trainer...

There are drivers who make good money at werner and are happy... but you and many others just want to take the word of those who didnt do well at werner... and often a few other companies.. and you take their word as good as gold...

That to me is like asking financial advice from someone filing bankruptcy. ..

WRONG! I worked at Werner 7 years, my first trucking job. Solo, trainer, owner/op trainer, owner op solo, in that order.. I find it hard to believe you take home over 1000 after deductions as a solo company driver.. Post up 3 or 4 weeks worth of stubs lets see how consistent it is!?! Doubt it happens. But like I said, almost everywhere pays better to start than Werner. For new guys I guess its ?ok? to get your feet wet but thats about it... I fall into complacency is the only reason I stayed so long. It cost me big. Id bet I missed out on close to $100k in earnings over 4 years on the same miles by staying there, if not more.YMMV

My expectations will be a simple answer, no; I'l tell you why: the two of you have no previous experience with the Carrier your thinking about applying with. 1), The boyfriend/trainer first will need to attend orientation (dependent upon successful completion) and 2), take a road test to be certified (pass road test) to allow the boyfriend to drive the Carriers Truck. 3), To be a Trainer, the Company will want to see how the new hire driver/ i.e. future hopeful trainer will a), operate their equipment & b), interacts with their fellow employees, c), contractors and what about d), Company Policy? What about that issue you brought up...im a Trainer...thats gota amount for something. Not so fast, some trainers are familiar with abridged training models, where there students can not be hire by some Carriers. Those trainers just have the experience learned from 10 years of driving. What about students whom has learning issues, a knuckle head, or english (novice speaker) as a second language students this is not for where you want a simple driver whom has 10 years experience driving. So, what does 10 years of experience amount to, eh, when the student can pretty much learn on their own. When looking for a Carrier find one that will allow you to wait for a female trainer to become available. After, the Carrier certifies by a road test that you may drive their truck, teaming wont be a problem...eh, let them know up front why your their, solely to team w/boyfriend.

Wow, please point to where i said anything about being successful or not..That depends on the individual as much as where they work.. I simply stated almost everywhere else pays better to start.. I paid cash(60k) for my truck 3 yrs in and left there with more than 100k in the bank, should of been closer to 200! Guess im unsuccessful, what a shame.

In Decatur there is Tidewater Transit; don't know if they use teams or not.
Doubt if Watkins-Shepard will hire you; too far away from a terminal.
US Express is good for teams.

There is more to look at than just pay... before coming to werner I drove for an O/O, decent pay.. but no health benefits, no 401k and no one to help when things weren't right.. after that I went to a small family run company. . Yeah, I made more pennies per mile than I do now... but, they couldn't keep my running like werner does, the benefits again sucked.. no 401k... and again no support.. cant complain about payroll when its the oners wife, or dispatch which was his daughter.. or the equipment since he and his so sons were the mechanics. ..

So, I came to werner where I have always made .34 cpm or higher, in addition to safety and other bonuses,, where I have been consistently running 2500 miles or more a week, I am building a 401k, purchased company stock and have vreat health, vision, dental insurance, as well as life and disability insurance...

And yes, still brining home a good paycheck every week....

With werner it is all about being a good, safe and effecient driver so you qualify for good accounts.. often with nice sign one bonuses. . So at the very least you make an extra $3000 to $10,000 a year just in sign on bonuses. ..

Stay away from Watkins & Shepard. Two teams I know recently left that place because they were making $500 a week. That company does not have enough team runs. Horrible benefits & junk trailers.
