I'm told home time is the same everywhere. They can get you home sure, but you'll lose the chances for higher end freight. for freight, I'm pretty sure it's pretty decent as we have a lot of drivers from that area, as well as a terminal down that way.

Ok appreciate it, so for the percentage pay, what are the key factors that help keep the % up.

Ol George has one particular student already in the hot tub club but without the snorkle. Today is our last day in the classroom. Load securement starts tomorrow and we're ready to go..

not to kick OTR but all new guys especially Vets should always check local out if thats what you want to work towards anyway. do not believe the myth that they will hire inexperienced, if you can drive you can drive thats what it boils down to. #### I was with my trainer 1st week with TMC still sending apps out for local, scored a bad ### gig while with trainer told him i was done but we didn't tell coordinator till end of week and we ran like aeam for the week balls to the wall since i could drive. got a load close to house after i help make him some good money for the week instead of leaving him hanging and bid farewell. i don't think he works there anymore so he cant get in trouble for doing it. but yes you can find a local gig right out the door. I was making 1200 week home every day some days by lunch depends on me and when i get going. keep truck home and still flatbed. 2014 truck now was 2012 prostar. so 56ct a mile i'm on percentage but that what it ends up being and thats all miles and do as i please no micro manage. hell even score local backhauls sometimes for me myself all my money....... so always look do not believe you cant because you are new. thats what everyone will tell you because they are trying to find said job before you... My two cents.... this goes for NC but im sure its the same all over..

Moon, stars, and planets to align, and be a trainer to get and stay at 32.
Ex88, I beat the ground, knocked on doors, talked to some friends in my area, I do not want box trucks, that's all that would consider me, there was a local steel plant that would hire me, but for on call only, and at a rate of 15 an hour. Not worth it in my opinion. Personally I like over the road, gets my family and I time away, things go smoother for my wife when I'm away. I'm not there causing "havoc" like she says. I appreciate the point and you are right, but not everyone has the same chances.
Eventually I'd like to do what my grandaddid and purchase my own truck and trailer and sign it on with a and decent company, then my wife and I can go out together and the kids can take care of things at home. Seeing as they are both teens, and I don't see buying my own for several years, I got some time. I'm not into the whole lease option so forget that noise. -
Well im sitting here at a pilot west of St louis, funny I got in here after midnight and there are still spaces open. My FM is routing me through Joplin on my way to my delivery in Oklahoma with skids of coils. #### place placed 5 stacks of 2 coils on my deck, each stack weighs about 8000lbs each. TMC wants Xchains on each, a strap across the top, and horseshoe chains on each end. problem is, we only carry 10 chains, and to Xchain each skid is gonna use up all my chains. I called and get it ok'd to use horseshoe straps vs chains on the end. Since im gonna be in Joplin tomorrow, I dont want anyone to get pissy on my securement. I ended the week with a grand total of 4384 to my truck. With tarp fees ill be looking at around 1300 gross for the week. I busted my ### with 6 loads done. I mentioned this to another driver and he was slightly pissed saying that hes begged them for short turnaround hauls and they wont give em to him. Personally, id rather have a few higher paying loads over a lot of lesser paying. This is a lot of work for 6 loads. Im #### tired, and if this hooker here at the pilot knocks on my truck me and her are gonna have words.
milskired Thanks this. -
Thats been my experience too. I only worked at TMC for about 6 months and left partly because of being away from home all the time wasn't for me. I didn't think any local gigs would hire me since I didn't really have that much experience. Most places advertised 2-3 years experience required. I bumped into a old childhood friend and he was working with a local flatbed company. I asked if they were hiring and they were. True he put in a good word for me but they took a chance on me and now going 3 years later all is well. Decent trucks, same strap only loads and I'm home by 3pm or earlier everyday while making more than I did at TMC.
For the inexperienced:If local gigs are what your aiming for I'd suggest putting in apps even if you don't have the time in. Some places will take a chance on you. -
How was the home time while you were at TMC, did you get home most weekend?
-
Home time was ok. I was home most weekends but I remember a lot of those weekends home were getting in late Friday or early Saturday and then having to leave out Sunday afternoon or night to get to my Monday morning drop off in time, so not much of a weekend off really. Sometimes I got home Friday morning and then my Monday drop off was close to home so I could leave out early Monday morning.
A few weekends I didn't get home because of no loads going out. Once I got stuck in Houston Texas for 3 days (early Friday morning to Monday morning) because of no loads going out. Being out 2+weeks at a time wouldn't be bad if your running and making money but if your sitting then it really sucks.
