in 1987 with 2+ years experience at a truckload division of an Ltl company (not a hard job to get) I made .28 cpm. but I received $40.00 each time I bumped a dock. I had layover pay and motels paid(every night if I wanted) I was paid for everything I did drop and hook etc. they liked me and tried to do what I wanted. I had health insurance that actually paid credit union some kid of bonus etc. If I received thee same rate of pay now what would it be.
i am making over 2 times more than i have ever made in my life...

I'm pretty convinced that drivers have to really, REALLY, dig driving big trucks to do this job and keep doing it.
You have to love it enough to do it for whatever the pay might be paying. The money is just a bonus.
I get that, I really do.
But that's where the low wage takes advantage of the driver who looks past the realities of the job.
Those realities are easier for newer drivers to see, I guess.
The reality is that the pay is too low for what it is and what trucking demands of people.SheepDog Thanks this. -

I'm not your imaginary enema.
First, I was toungue-in-cheek with my socialist snark. He's Canadian. If the joke fits...
Second, I wasn't the one who commented about Walmarters flying around in jets.
Third, what difference does my political position make in this discussion other than to have you attack me for something not relevant to the discussion? That called an ad hominem attack, by the way, attacking someone for who they are or represent rather than for the substance of their commentary.
Fourth, it's fine if you want to bail on this fairly civilized discussion if it makes you uncomfortable.
Americans have been putting up with this race to the bottom and watching their standard of living decline for years and years and it's time we stood up and said enough. But I guess we have to stand up to each other first, because there are some among us who don't get it. Just don't get it.
If you like your situation, stick with it, if not, retire.
But don't kick the rest of us when we're trying to get up onto our feet and make a life for ourselves and provide for our families. It's a shame trucking seems to be full of folks who just want to go with the flow, where ever it takes them, even down the drain -- enjoy that ride, because I'm not going with you!Brandson Thanks this. -
