I ran some 577's for 250k miles. They did an ok job. You could do a lot worse. That groove around the edge is to prevent the weird wear patterns a lot of people, especially with higher torque, get from M726. For me 726 was a worthless tire that never wore right. It's what came on the truck. I've got my 577's capped right now with G572 unicircles and the groove is gone after they capped them. I love these G572's that's my next set of virgins for sure. They get as good fuel mileage at 28/32 as the 577's did with 5/32's worn out. Great tread pattern. Michelin rolling resistance chart is hocus pocus as far as I can tell.

les schwab gave credit for casings. and those were recaps being traded in for new recaps.Derailed Thanks this.

I ran 8 of Samson GL283 all position tires as drives. Very solid tire with excellent wear. Most of all, smooth & quiet. More so than any other drive tire I've tried. Plenty of traction. $2500 for a set of 8 mounted and I kept my old tires.

I agree. I've been running Double Coin all position also and very quiet. On my second set. One of these days Michelin and the rest will wise up as more and more people pick the cheaper tires at half the price.Derailed Thanks this.

The Michelin XZA 3+ and Bridgestone M726EL's I have mounted on my truck have Made in U.S.A. molded on the sidewall, so I doubt most Major Brands are Made in China.Derailed Thanks this.

actually I get just as much for the DC casings as I do for anything else I run them a lot on drives and trailers as with the work that I do actually wearing one out is about a 50/50 shot as they tend to get tore up and I don't care what names is on the sidewall none of them survive rocks thru the side etc .
but I get comparable wear out of them as well
Now if I was the one driving the truck most of the time maybe differentDerailed Thanks this. -
I couldn't get a round double coin when I was buying a new tire for my trailer once. They tried twice. I said forget it and put a yoko on there instead. I saw a buddy of mine get less than 100K miles out of a set of I dunno what's Chinese brand that were virgin brand new on the truck. I guess you get what you pay for. If you guys have good luck with Chinese that is great.

Thanks for the input guys. I am tossing the G572s around now as well. A bit pricier but not as high as the 726el I got qoutes on. If I will get more on the other end when I turn them in that will help counter that which is the case here with my local tire guys. I know the Chinese brand tires supposably have come a long way in quality control, im just having a hard time pulling the trigger on them if I can still get ones that are made here for roughly the same price. I was thinking to myself it was only a year ago I was shopping for tires for my wifes car and I was dead set against having them on a vehicle my kids would ride in. Im sure it wont be long down the road that these are all we will have to choose from.

That's great if you like running Caps, personally I wouldn't run Caps for Long Haul.......Local driving, I would though.
-
Caps are as good as virgins on your own casings. IF, the big if, you take care of your tires. I have no problems running regional with them and would not hesitate to criss cross the country with them.
kwswan Thanks this.
