I am looking into starting my own hot shot business. I already have the truck, I am will be pulling with a 1ton dodge dually. My question is what do I do next? I know I have to come up with a name for my company, I know I have to get what's called a DBA from my local court house but after that I am kinda lost. Do I need a permit to run just the state of Texas? I will be doing local runs because I am a single mom and have to be home every night. If anyone has any suggestions or advice please let me know. Your time is appreciated! Thank You!:biggrin_255:

    You might google hotshothauling.

It is a site just for what you are looking for. They have alot of info on startup and state laws for the little trucks.

There are many issues that you will face with the little truck that are not faced with the big trucks. I strongly suggest looking over there.

yah I'm checking into it now. I figured there would be a few more obstacles with a smaller truck but I don't have a big truck right now, maybe later on I will be able to afford one. I hope this will work, I am going to put in my best effort and go for it. I think eventually it will work out might just take some time though.

Good luck. It is a tough business, especially in Texas. Best to get a contract thru people/businesses you personally know.

There is a place here in town that makes continental trailers. They are looking for O/O's. If you want, I can stop and get a number for you? :yes2557:

f you don't know the industry well I would definatly lease the truck to someone and get to know the players well enough to be able to come to them directly.
