Load assignments

As my load assignments are exactly that -- load ASSIGNMENTS -- I don't receive a list of loads to pick and choose from. I get the shipper and consignee information, what the load is (sometimes, and even then not necessarily correct), what it weighs (ditto), when and where to pick up and drop, etc. Would be nice to be able to pick and choose, though.

 

Couldn't agree more, MommaKay. Have you ever sent the little message saying "Can't do it"?

 

Once we get the load assignment dispatch screen on the qualcomm that is our load unless there is a good reason we can't do it, like a 150 mile bounce empty in a hour or something.

If there were choices my Fleet Manager would call and check with me. I told him though to usually make the choice to get me a good paying load going the right direction, or I would give him conditions beforehand, like I would send him a message in the morning saying "will only have enough hours to deliver a 400 mile load by 10 am tomorrow." He only called me when there was a choice between bad and worse. He would break it down by stating "I have three loads available, one in place A going to place B paying $X on y miles. . . etc.

We might sometimes get a preplan that looks just like a dispatch screen, except the bounce miles are not filled in and a few other differences. This is sometimes referred to as the dummy load screen by night dispatch. It usually indicates that you are going to take this load after you are empty. If you want to change it you need to speak up the minute you get it. I rarely complained but I did check the appt times to see if I could make it and ask for different appointment times before I was actually locked in on that dispatch. If the appointment times could not be changed sometimes I would get a different load.
