    Daytona:
Keep your chin up and look at it as...You were looking for a job when you went to Maveric and you did all-right. You can do it again.
You watch, you'll find something much better because of this.
God bless you and watch over you.

Daytona: I am truly sorry to find that Maverick treated all your hard work and dedication so callously. But, to quote a wise man:

You gave it a better fight than most. Take a look at how many newbies have posted endlessly their excitement over being accepted to Maverick. Then look at how many have kept their posts going – almost none. You, on the other hand have posted the good, the bad and the ugly. You have given wannabes true insight into the life of a driver, and have done so with honesty, humor and self-reflection.

At the risk of sounding less than encouraging again, I can tell you from experience that you have just entered a new period of self-reflection. I still haven’t decided if truck driving is for me. I loved driving, but that isn’t all the job is about. If Maverick is considered one of the best carriers, I’m not sure I want to work for one that’s worse. So, I’ve spent my time off catching up projects around the house, practicing my hobby of photography, learning gardening and traveling with my wife on her business trips. Living with her 24/7 is a lot nicer than 24/7 in a truck.

I respect your refusal to compromise your integrity and run illegal. That combined with your intelligence and work ethic must not have fit “The Maverick Way” – nor the way of OTR in general. Hopefully info like your’s will eventually fall on the right eyes, and bring about a change in the demands carriers place on an OTR driver.

I strongly encourage you to keep up your thread. Your thought processes during this time will be a great benefit to wannabes. And, if you decide that trucking is still for you, there is a lot you can teach about researching companies and the application process with each. You have earned such a great reputation – don’t let it end here.

If you want to check what Maverick has posted to your DAC, you can register at this site:

    https://dol.usis-csd.com/Maverick/LoginForm.aspx?ReturnUrl=%2fMaverick%2fmain.aspx

It is a site Maverick has for both trucking companies and drivers. There is no cost to you. You will need to fax them a copy of your driver’s license and social security card before they will activate your username/password, but turnaround only takes about 24 hours. Once you are registered, you can check on-line whenever you want.

Daytona, I’d wish you luck, but I don’t think you will need it. So, instead I’ll wish you a company that will appreciate your dedication and integrity. And a company that doesn’t let those “driving” the desks take their E.D. meds at work.

    All the best,
    Ollietoo

I would think twice before faxing my drivers license and social security card to anyone!

    Hey Daytona:
Just saw this site - www.bigrigowners.com - Take a look and see if there is anything there for you.
Give some thought to getting your own athority also. You could get with a factoring company and have your money quick and get to know some of your clients so you wouldn't have to factor there loads. Maybe you could do it all around your home and have the best of both worlds.
I've talked to guys that have done it and they were very happy. You've got a head on your shoulders and could pull it off.
I would like to do it but I'm too old. So I set in the truck and think about it.
    Hope things are going well.
    Keep us up to-date.
    God bless.

Hey guys thanks for the kind words.Today was the day my last paycheck should of showed up unfortunately it didn't.I just hate being jerked around.I do not know what to do next I am afraid I will never get my money from maverick I am sitting on about 2800 unpaid miles.

I put in an on-line application with one of the on-line services I wont do that again I heard from all the lowlifes. Man if I had this kind of trouble with a company that had a good albeit undeserved reputation I cant imagine being with these other bottom feeders.I think I may be done completely with driving. I know my shifting skill have diminished(#### automatics) and I don't want to spend weeks with a trainer all over again.

I will let you know if I ever get paid from maverick right now I am not particularly optimistic. I am leaving for Arizona for two weeks on Tuesday (my nephew is graduating we hope) to visit family and get the desert back in my blood stream. Hopefully I will sort things out. This has taken a bigger toll on me then driving ever did. ya ll be safe out there later

Dang Daytona.... Sorry I ahve been out of the loop for a bit. I'm sorry to hear that Maverik jerked you around like that. My first thought when I read your posts is that they canned you because of your shoulder. If that is the case, I sure wish you could prove it, but alas there are better companies out there. Why don't you try switching to dry vans for a while. You wouldn't have to throw tarps and there are a lot of good choices out there. Let us know what you decide. Things are starting to look up for us. Freight is picking up along with miles and if it holds we may start making a decent living. Its a shame to ride out the worst of the storm only to get the boot before you get to reap any of the benefits.

    Hey Daytona,

I'm sure you've already thought about it - but just in case - you might consider a short discussion with an attorney. There wouldn't be a fee usually. For a reasonable amt of $ the attorney can send a letter. I think you deserve a reason for being "let go" & it should be in writing. Ask the attorney about your rights in this regard. Maverick is counting on you just disappearing. You should get a copy of your DAC BEFORE visiting attorney.

Find out the facts first. THEN you can fight for your $. Mav has probably dreamed up some excuse for charging you exactly what they owe you. You can't dispute this until you get this in writing. And if you call them it's the same as nothing. They will most likely deny speaking to you.

I think you should pursue this for another reason. This will keep your credibility intact. If you just walk away it will look like you deserved to be "let go". If you go to an attorney, establish what you have a right to know, etc. anyone hiring you will see you were proactive in defending yourself.

Even if the $ never arrives, I would feel better knowing I stood up to them. You might just ask the attorney to give you guidelines & write your own letter to mav. Then you'll pay no fees initially & can still go back to that attorney depending upon the response. You might offer mav a "settlement" for a positive recommendation from them (in writing only).

Don't sell yourself short, Daytona! NONE of us are. Good luck & hope this helped you make a decision.

Wow, hard to believe they 'let you go' months after the fact and for something so trivial. From your later posts it doesn't sound like you were too happy with the company anyway though. Just don't let it keep you from doing what you love.

I read a good thread, not sure if it was here or on a different site but it was about all of the smaller companies out there. The ones with 50 or so trucks. There are many of them. Many of them pay better and treat their drivers better also. You should start looking for places like that in your area.

Daytona, I loved your thread. Please keep all of us up to date. My husband and I are planning to go OTR as a team in a couple of years and we will be in our 50's. Why did you decide to go flatbed as opposed to dry van?
