Hi SHO-TYME, 5 years and then some. I knew someone that had trouble, went through the whole program, they got it all fixed, had to do randoms like once a month for a year, after a year they said it will be on his record for 5 years. 8 YEARS LATER, DOT came in and retested everyone that had trouble in the past. Of course, by then, it wasn't an issue for him, but just the same, they lied(?) about the 5 year thing. I think it's on your record forever, somewhere.

I talked to my brother... he us a recovering addict... he said, that usually, you can call a hotline and get a ride to a meeting if you need to... someone will pick you up at the truck stop and take you to a meeting.. of course, that is if you can get away from your truck for an hour or so.... he also said you can us usally find someone to talk to on the phone 24/7 if you need...
It is good to know there is support for drivers in recovery out here...faux_maestro and virginwidow Thank this. -

Simply put: it doesn't work. If there isn't enough hair on your head to test, they'll take it from your armpit. If there isn't enough on your armpit, they'll take it from your forearms, legs, etc etc etc. If you are completely shaven, you can't take the test and won't get hired.gpsman Thanks this. -
Pam Transport and TransAM do not do hair tests

You can shave, wait 2-3 months depending on how fast you grow hair, and you should be ok.
In a sense its like starting again clean, as long as you are clean when you start to regrow the hair, and you dont mess up, you will have clean hair and wont have anything to worry about.
If you grow hair slowly, it might be best to wait a few months until you know you can pass what ever test you get.
I'm all for people turning there life around, hope everything works out! -
So now I am thinking VERY hard about driving myself... It never occured to me, but I read in this thread a driver shouldn't let their employer know they're in recovery... being sober 26 years I don't see why a secret but considering the legalities I can see the reason this comment was made. And, as a fellowship, we are supposed to be discreet. I always took that to mean protect OTHER members anonymity, not to be all icky-picky secret about MY OWN...
Obviously if I'm going over the road for weeks at a time, I'm gonna need meetings. Period. The question is how would one attend those meetings (on lay overs, breaks etc) and it NOT be known? I "get" how you get there, you call the hotline and find out if there's a ride -- I mean, if you're being DISCREET how does this not become known? If a recovering person is running team, their partner would HAVE to know hell 1/2 the phone calls we make are to other AA's ... I think it'd be a bit much to put Partner on the spot to preserve this "Dirty" (NOT) secret...
Just wondering, I've seen several others in recovery on here so your input will be welcome
Thanks in Advance

I just took a prehire drug screen with a company and passed. The key is don't do drugs.
