typically it's 10 years on a dui. typically. a select few only go back 5 or 7 years.
typically it's 3 years for most other things. for insurance purposes. that 8 speeding may or may not hurt you. as long as it's the only ticket in 3 years. might want to wait till that seatbelt has passed the 3 year mark.NH4life and Tonythetruckerdude Thank this. -
Short answer .....yse , on the ANY issues questions...the 2 speeding tickets won't help at all , the DUI may or not be an issue with some , with some it will mean a definite NO , with others maybe not...not the best driving record , but not the worst by a wide margin too. You'll more than likely find work of some kind , just might not be with a great company to begin with. Give a few companies a call , talk with their HR folks explain your situation/ driving record , and see what they say. I would do this before making the commitment to a school 1st. Be a shame if you got all dressed-up and didn't have a dance partner. Good Luck!

Better come up with a good answer if a company asks you to "Explain about your pattern of speeding."

Speeding, no seat belt, drinking/driving. Bad news trying to get hired.
-
I didn't think two in six years was bad because all the companies I've seen only go back three years on speeds....
I do want to add though that I have perfect work history(same company for 11 years) and perfect credit(not sure if that even matters) -
Even though the dui is 14 years old and one of the speeds is over 6 years old? I've read pretty much every companies pre quals and I pass them all...
-
That doesn't mean much and here's why; most of those companies are probably crappy companies where you'll probably take home less than $500 a week after taxes and kept on the road for months at a time. Not worth it and if you think it is, I'd suggest checking with the local supermarket. You can probably bag groceries for more than that and be home everyday. One more thing about your driving history, if you can't keep a clean record in a car you will never stay our of trouble in a truck. It's extremely difficult to not get into trouble in a truck and if you accumulate even one speeding ticket you may make yourself ineligible for employment at certain companies. I'd suggest a different career. -
I think with your record it will raise a few eyebrows.Every company does not pre qualify you.Your mvr needs to pass the safety dept and the insurance company. But some may pre qualify you which I would deffinately bring that up with your recruiter before she sets up orientation. Also look on their website what their qualifications are.

Hey, I admit I've had a few oops moments... Minus the dui of course, I accept that huge mistake. You're right, $500 a week isn't worth it, but if starting out at a sub par company is what I have to do to prove myself and gain experience to get on with a great company than to me it's well worth it for a bit. Mind you I am not some punk kid that lives life irresponsibly. I'm 38, have a daughter, and take work extremely seriously. I've heard of people with double the stuff on their driving records getting hired but yes, they had to start with possibly the crappiest companies there are. Nobody is perfect man, and I know you don't have to be perfect to become a truck driver, so not sure why you have to "suggest another career". I'm am I.T guy that has a decent job but I am tired of riding a desk, and have always wanted to get into trucking. I have zero accidents, and like I said... Only a few oops moments. I appreciate your advice but I'm going to have to decide to not listen to you on this one. Thanks for your reply though
