thought you said $3.30 ? no matter, it is always a good idea to route back through and fire someone after you have your equipment. Well, if he shows up I guess we'll get the other side of the story, but based on the info you provided sounds like you did the right thing. Some people just don't see the long-term big picture, and many of them are truck drivers.

I was mad and typing fast, just a typo -
I am a nervous wreck. I will let him keep his trailer until the 12th, that is when its paid up until Send him every penny I owe him, My head & heart are clear. he sent me an email saying that I agreed to pay for his fuel for a trip down to Florida last week...boy oh boy, the lies. LOL
My biggest fear was that I was doing something wrong to hurt someone and I know I'm not...just needed to see it on black & white, You guys are great. I admit, I'm a softie at heart but when it comes to making money for my operators and myself, it's a different ball game! -
you should not feel bad at all,The guy terminated himself.it is his fault..I would tell him he has his job back just come to yard with the trailer, then once you have the trailer FIRE HIM AGAIN !!

Report trailer stolen. When the police have trailer and it gets straighten out. Oh well mistake made. At least equipment is safe.

Try your best to remain calm as possible if/when you talk with the guy. Remind him why he got fired, it was his fault, twice he made your company look bad to your customers, and so you had no choice but to let him go, so why make it worse on himself? Remind him that when he goes to try to lease on with another company, A Lot will depend on your good or not so good recommendation to the new company. Does he run under your authority? If he doesn't return the trailer asap, then he's digging himself a deeper hole. I would think that is theft, and then abandonment of company equipment if it's not returned, undamaged. Does he think he will work again with that hanging over his head? Just remind him of all this as nicely as you can, that you're doing him a big favor by being calm and professional about his screw-up. I've been in your shoes with a few company drivers I had years ago, but to have an o/o act like that, just ridiculous. Good luck.

Mara,
First congratulations on starting a successful business. Second business' become successful with hard work dedication and service. It is completely understandable to feal bad. But you did the right thing twice. Always remember one persons decision in business effects everyone. The broker xould have said he wasn't going to use you anymore, charged you $$$$ ect...Mara Thanks this. -
First you do not need people like that and second quit running your operation by your feelings it does not work, this guy likely lost no sleep in dropping that load and leaving you in a bind.
It hurts to terminate people also hurts to lose your business or customers as a result of inept people in your employ
