My first load of plastic pipe looked like this first ramp onto freeway. 1 mile from loading dock. Thankfully it was a cloverleaf interchange. Loop de loop and back to shipper had them reload me and I pulled on straps like I was going to break pipe. I didn't know you can't kink plastic pipe. But I did learn you can, not tighten your straps enough.

They say most people can do flatbeding with common sense but it's loads like these that show experience and teach it hard way.

Strapping from both sides does help but alot of us don't have the equipment to do that.
Belly straps also helps but how many straps and winches does one need to carry,

IMO you're nuts of you don't have winch track on both sides of a trailer.

    SMTatham Thanks this.

I agree. Getting my boss to drag out his checkbook isn't working out real well for our trailers though. I get by with a dozen portables. Not ideal but it works I guess.

This is one where I get to learn from others mistakes. All my winches are on one side. I will be picking up some portables to go with my 4" ratchets.

Looks like he may have broke the dunnage strapping all from one side.

I have only hauled 4" steel and 20" and 24" plastic pipe so far.

My method for these kinds of loads that can be pulled to one side is to run two belts in opposite directions as close to each other as possible- front and back or even in the middle if the pieces are really long. Tighten one, then the other, then the first one again. Keep alternating till they are both tight. Then the rest of the straps can usually go in the same direction.
