Can you suggest a good and affordable brand/model? I'm not going to be a talker but will listen ;) Of course it's primary use is emergency, information like weather and road conditions too, of course! -thanks- cj.

The Uniden PC78XL would work ok for what you want it and not cost to much or you could go with the PC76 instead.

you can spend less, but youll get a few less options... but id put the cobra 29 at the high end of the budget model list. you can find them used and pre tweaked for 75 bucks or so.. and new from 99-125.

the antenna is where its at. ill let you search to your own conclusion on which brand.... but get a decent antenna, and get it setup by a professional... and youll be on your way.

Chica if you use a cell phone often the Cobra 29 with bluetooth will be out in less than a month now. I have 5 cbs now but having bluetooth integrated with a time tested model like Cobra 29 is quite tempting. If nothing else it would be a great conversation piece to show off.

COBRA 29 is a very popular radio, however I bought the COBRA 25 had it peeked and tuned and a bigger filter for the alternator noise.

Doesn't have all the buttons and the bells, but it performs just as well.

I've got two Cobra 29ltd's. One in my tractor, and the other in my pickup. Both have had power conversions. Took one in for a peak and tune, and the guy said the better thing to do was a power conversion. It seemed to work pretty well, so I took the other to him.
