Did you fall and hit your head recently ... even at 4 miles to the gallon that would be $1.20 a gallon for diesel in the late 60s? Like your original post and pretty much everything you've posted since it's babbling nonsense ... for a self proclaimed college educated individual, you're fairly devoid of any analytical thinking.

I think what you are saying is it shows you, are not smart at all, must work for a company and not really a trucker. Let see 1 gallon of fuel cost .30 cents and you get 4 miles out of it, and you get .63 cents a mile. you made in 4 miles $2.52 and cost you 1 gallon of fuel, if you can't do the math have some one help you. You need help

I never work for prime, I did my home work and talk to a lot of ex and that still drives for them, only meet one who was on his second truck he been with them for 5years, the rest I met with them where newbies less then a 1yr. Also I live in Missouri, and heard the stories from ex truckers about them, and yes I did look into it, but was smarter to leave it alone.

never drove for prime, and the other answer is, not much on the computer, and I was surfing when I found this web site and joined, hoping to help others, not to hurt anyone. If every trucker does his home work before getting into the truck, it might save his life, their are people out here that gives it their all, and after failing some do commit suicide, its a shame this happens and no one knows about it. When companies tell these people they got their back and later they find out they are screwed, is this called bully? Is it ok to scam the old people out of their money? Is this ok when kids at home have to do without food? Its time for some of us to step up to them and try to help these people, our government is looking the other way, and its a shame. in real 70% should make it, and get their trucks if the company would do what they are suppose to do.

Make up your mind ... is it $.30 a mile or $.30 a gallon ... with a college education, one should've learned to articulate a coherent thought.

There are plenty of us who end up with our own truck if we want it. There's one poster on TTR whose on his 5th lease that I know of. Perhaps you should do some real homework, instead of just posting innuendo and truck stop fables.

The OP is wrong on your prices, in the early 70s I worked at gas stations, supreme was ike 25 to 29 cpg, diesel was less like maybe 10 to 12 cents per gallon less.
My Dad was contracted to Little Audrey Inc., There run was LA Produce Mkt to Hunts Point, deadhead to Vienna Sausage Chicago back to LA Vienna Sausage. I could be wrong but what I remember was as a O/O his take was about 1700.00, paid his co driver 345.00 out of it. I think it was about 4500 miles. Like I said could be wrong but this is what I remember. Just FYI that was half handstack because you could not get 2 pallets side by side in the trailer.
I believe that 4 mpg was about average back then, so thats about 170.00 in fuel.
The end of ICC was the end of profit, It used to be that all quotes went thru the ICC you had to show a prrofit. You could not run for free, Endind the ICC is when that all changed, -
My guess is a lot of drivers get lured into the leasing business by the big money thrown around in advertisements. Who wouldn't? Everybody loves Big Money and "freedom" to be on your own. Once into the lease, however, they realize to get that money and "freedom," a driver has to do two things a company driver never has to do: operate like a business and drive a lot of miles over many days (spelled 'sacrifice') to put dollars in an account for regular and unanticipated expenses.
Everybody has heard business owners say they never worked as hard as when they went into business for themselves. Why does anyone think a trucking business would be any different? If you like regular, planned hometime and you like spending the money you make without having to save some or most of it, stay on the predictable company side. There's nothing wrong with doing so.Aceprofessionaltrucker Thanks this. -
The basics of a profitable business certainly haven't changed. You bid on runs that meet your requirements for revenue, and contain your costs to maintain an acceptable profit. If you're running loads for less than cost, the marketplace will do what it does to everyone who doesn't understand business... it will put you out of it.
Anyone on a mileage contract whether in business for themselves or a company driver has to "drive a lot of miles." That's what happens when you're collecting your pennies for every mile you drive. I'm paid on percentage, and drive less... oh yeah, and have a successful business.
If that's all you want out of your business life is to collect paycheck and sit on the couch at home, don't even think about starting a business, in this case aka leasing a truck. You will work harder, but the challenge of running a successful business is well worth the work.TLeaHeart Thanks this.
