You sure of that? My brother drives for Averitt. He doesnt have his Hazmat endorsement. He's been there for two years!

Truckload requires it I know, BUT Flatbed does not! My brother drives a dedicated route, so its not required for that either...

But yes regional does require a hazmat!

Any tips out there on how to get less time sitting? My hubby drives with his left door closed, gets were he is going eqrly, keeps a positive can do attitude, and over and over again is left sitting for hours and hours. We know that some times it is going to happen sometimes 3 out of 5 days he sits for more than 10 hours. He drives regional and usually gets home for the weekend. How do you get preplanned routes with Averrit? He did have a substitute dispatcher one day, the sub preplanned the whole week. My hubby was in heaven, how can we get him preplanned on the regular?

Hazmat wasn't required for my hubby, but he got it anyway with the hopes of getting more loads and or miles.

I've only heard good things about them. Very uncommon in todays industry.

As they say in the real estate business, location location location.

I am the senior TL driver at a small yard. The only way I will ever get the shuttle position I so desire is if a driver dies or retires. Our nightly shuttle runs have declined from nine to four over the last eight years due to loss of local business.

I had a dedicated gig once for over two years that involved driving 2300 miles in four days and home for three days, every week. Averitt lost that account to another carrier.

The larger locations such as Atlanta, Dallas, Nashville, etc. offer a wider range of opportunities and I have seen drivers in those places move into a cushy job rather quickly. Case in point: Nissan account in Nashville area- day cab, hourly pay, home every day/night. But you have to be there; it won't come to you.

Since I plan on hanging up the keys in three years (or sooner) I will stay in TL and suck it up. I've been trucking a pretty good while and I've had a ton of fun at times. I've had it better than Averitt but I've seen it a helluva lot worse too.

The money isn't bad and I'm home every weekend; sometimes it could be longer. Also it's nice living three miles from the yard. Important for an older guy like me (growing forgetful) because sometimes I leave something important at home or in the truck and not so bad going back to the yard.

The benefits aren't bad either. There have been a few medical emergencies over the years between me and my late wife. Time off was never questioned and the short term disability pay was nice, as was the insurance, which always came through.

Maybe that shuttle job will open up for me before I retire. If not I'll just ride this thing out.

Would they hire someone with a misdemeanor? I have all my endorsements and a good driving history. I live about 1/2 hour away from a yard.

I don't think a misdemeanor would be an issue

    RookieJ1987 Thanks this.

Does anyone have any information about the flatbed division? Specifically, miles, pay and type of loads?

Only that flatbeds are not run out of every location. A recruiter could be more helpful.

I gather you are in Virginia? I don't recall ever seeing any in either Roanoke, Winchester, or Richmond.
