At $3 a pound or so, it's not really high value, just easily converted into cash. Now a load of cigarettes, that's high value AND easily converted into cash.
sdaniel Thanks this. -
flatbedders haul it all the time. out in the open.
it's supposed to be tarped. according to the broker. but no one wants to pay for tarping. and, your not even allowed on the trailer while on the premises
one of them type loads that the only person wanting it tarped. is the broker.
been a long time since i hauled it. but i think one isn't allowed to disconnect truck and trailer either.
i know brokers don't pay to haul copper. i made more hauling 60 ft rebar 900 miles then i did hauling copper 1200 miles. -
Wow, where do you park your truck? I could do all my Christmas shopping for nasty relatives in one stop!
Mr Ed, allniter, vikingswen and 2 others Thank this. -

I haul loads of cows daily on my flatbed reefer trailer. My Peterworth coventional cab-over has never been overtaken by renegade meat suppliers.
TwinStickPeterbilt and Mr Ed Thank this. -
My brother hauled a few pallets of unlocked smart phones last year from LA to Chicago. Police escorts and specific places to park almost like a HazMat load. Had to stay with truck and could only park in terminals or scales.

Few years back, when they were still hot and heavy on the "star wars" project for missile defense, they handled a lot of the testing out of the Nat. Guard facility at Kirkland AFB in N.M. Every year they would ship a bunch of stuff to a remote part of Hawaii for testing. The misc., but still important stuff would ship on 1 or 2 40' containers there and back, the important stuff went on C130's or C141's. About 3 am one morning, I'm hauling a load back from Denver to Kirkland for unloading, between Walsenberg and Trinidad, Co. had this pickup start playing cutesy with me, he would run up behind me, then back off, did this probably 4 or 5 times, then he hung about 3 car lengths off my trailer for a couple of miles, then backed off for awhile, then got up close again. Even though I knew there was nothing dangerous in the container, I wasn't taking chances. Called 911, told the dispatcher what was going on, she sounded bored, said the guy was probably trying to stay awake, I advised her that I was hauling US military cargo, suddenly she woke up. Wanted to know the MP I had passed, description of truck and trailer, etc.. AS we were approaching El Moro Rd. exit, I could see the outline of cop car on the bridge, as we went by, with the pickup about 3 car lengths back, the cop came down the ramp and hung a little ways back from the pickup. As we came into Trinidad, two more cop cars came on the highway, one a Trinidad cop, the other a Sheriff's deputy, as soon as we went under the last bridge, they all hit their lights, two of them stopped the pickup, the third tailed me into the wide spot across from the scale. He ran my license, checked the inside of the cab, checked my paperwork and log, since the can was sealed with a high security seal and two heavy duty padlocks, he didn't as me to open it (I couldn't if I wanted to). Meanwhile, the two Trinidad cops had a very long talk with a family of 4 that were heading to funeral in El Paso, via N.M., and it turned out the guy driving was trying to stay awake, his wife and kids were dozing.
Yeah, I never tell anyone what I'm hauling, considering I rarely know myself to begin with.Skydivedavec and mike-v Thank this. -
Some people don't listen. They have to learn the hard way. Must be a beginner
