I don't go out that way much, but was in LA last week and came close to do a couple of turns to Or. and back to LA. Pays good going to Or., but crap back to Cali. Still would have made decent money doing that until a load came up coming out of there to Ny. that paid good, so I took that. You just have to catch the loads out there or as far as that goes just about anywhere at the right time. Timing plays a big factor on the load board. The midwest aint so bad. Come on up to the promised land called the northeast and get ya some lol. Same here as out west, pays good going in and crap going out. Just be willing to take a little crap here and there to get to a better place. Don't haul a $1 a mile load 800 miles though, just run one fairly short. You don't have to get too far to get to the better paying runs. It's all about evening things out as I have slowly been learning. Dfo does it that way, rickybobby from what I have read on his IC#'s does it that way among others except Sadwar just keeps killing it up here LOL[just messing with ya]. Everyone has a certain way of doing things and it will come to you as well. Hell I'm still trying to figure all this out, but 5 months in, I have a little better handle on things. I just run too many miles for my money. I still have to work on that. Just experiment with different things until you find what works for you. Let the rambling stop now LOL

After a mimimal week, I reset at Dunnigan on monday. Lined up a 5k lb. load to LA area... then proceeded to find a nice little one up near Bakersfield (6k lb.), and another light one ending up in Everett Wa. on Monday (14k lb).. Even found another during monday to end up monday night over by Hermiston, Or. Nice week lined up.

    And Then....

About 3 days ago my Jake and Cruise began to stop working. Tapping the clutch would make it start working again but it would shut off when a bump hit, or when idling for no apparent reason.
Picked up my load for LA, and when I started the truck it asked for a Regen. Went to a rest area, kicked in the REGEN, then about 15-20 minutes in, opened the drivers door to get out, and the REGEN shut off.

Light not out. Uh Oh. Couldn't kick it in, so I decided to drive a bit and stop and see if it would do its thing. About half a mile down the road the REGEN light goes out.... another few miles down the road, STOP ENGINE and ENGINE light on.

Trucks still running good, so I go down the road to Flag City truck stop. shut it off, turned off the batteries, and when I turned it back on, 9 codes all with computer error codes.
So, all the loads except the one currently parked at French Camp yard are off me and I sit in Delta Truck's parking lot waiting to see if they can work me in.
After weeks without a positive balance, now this.
It must be this ###### full moon.

On the brighter side, I got a lot done on my P&L spreadsheet to see how much I've made or not in 6 months.
hmmmm. Averaging about 2100$ a month net.
Not that great considering the large taxes that need to come out.

A very common problem with cruise/jake issues is the switch activated by the movement of the clutch pedal assembly stops working, or somehow gets out of adjustment, etc. Sometimes fiddling with the clutch pedal (many times picking it "up" from the bottom with the toe of your foot) will make everything work perfectly again. Both the jake and cruise control are deactivated when pressing the clutch on many trucks and if this switch is having issues, the ECM may believe the clutch is being pressed when in fact it is not. This also explains you regen stopping, when you opened/closed the door, it probably jarred the truck enough to mess with the switch. Regens can be interrupted by any number of things depending on the truck, from touching the clutch/brake/accelerator or releasing the brakes, just depends on the truck.

Might be an easy fix, have a look!

Wish I could help with your struggles out west, however that's not my area of operation so I cant offer any advice. If you are still struggling perhaps it would be a good idea to find some loads out of that area and experiment with running loads in different parts of the country.

I've talked to quite a few drivers that are happy. Schneider is good to work for, and it's very easy to get in and out of a lot of the pickups and deliveries, and a lot of drop n hook. Many of the guys I've spoke to are doing better than me, I'm not sure I'm a good representative case.
