I was earning 24 bucks an hour 20 years ago. So tell me again that $32 is a good wage today. Also, if we can drive for 13 hours a day in Alberta, and be on duty for 15, then you may as well call it based on 15 hours, because that is possible. That then takes $450 a day down to $30 an hour with no overtime scale.
No wonder you guys are truck drivers.

I get paid the same as seasoned veterans out here because we get paid by the tonne. If you add up what my mistakes cost me (if there are any) I will be on a reduced pay scale compared to the veteran who makes few mistakes.
It does compare to tradespeople, depending on the pay formula. If it is just straight hourly because you have a heartbeat, then you are right, it does not compare well. -

I'll exit this conversation now.

32 an hour is a good wage for a trucker it's not the top rate but it is good. Rudester your probably in that 275-350 a day how can you scoff at 450 a day?

I do well considering my lack of experience. I earn 33% of the truck's invoice to the mill. I also live in camp, only have to supply food, have no forced days off aside from mill closure (like this weekend). We earn about 8-9000 clear per month during a good weather summer or a winter. -

I figured the pay was low for working in such an isolated area with a 5/5 schedule. Comparing this job to "OTR" is not really making me feel like the pay is all that great for the oil field.
Would I leave my job for this one? No.
If the person who posted that they own a company and in fact are an immigrant driver they have learned in a relatively short period of time that "drivers will work for less". I have always said waged will continue to fall because drivers are willing to "work for less".
If this is a legitimate job......then low wages are begining to creep into the oilfield.
How can they not? Especially when drivers compare the wage to a regular job. I think the companies could easily get away with lowering wages across the driver pool, affterall if drivers only need to see that they make more than a driver elsewhere, simply pay them marginally more to make them think "hey......I got it pretty good."
I still don't think the guy is legit and some of you are defending a wage that doesn't exist. This could very easily have been someone fishing for a pricepoint on drivrrs tolerances in regards to wages.Last edited: Oct 12, 2014
