New Driver settling for a class b?

I would say #### or get off the pot. A or B truckin is truckin, sounds like your worried it will be the same as before but you recognize that it probly wont be. But your still concerened. Go for it, whats the worse that could happen? You dont like it? So you quit. You find a better gig? So you swap jobs. You can keep looking, just tell the prospective jobs your running B to pay the bills. Or you hate it. Find a differant line of work. Out of curiosity what co are you looking at? Feel free to say none of your business.

 

Tons of local jobs in mass both A and B that'll make you a hell of a lot more money than OTR, you can make some good money running a dump for a paving company and you can use your A for hauling all the paving equipment on a tag trailer....you could then move into low boy work or dump trailer work if you wanted to.

 

I assure you that there are thousands of drivers out on the road looking for exactly what you found. If the class B job pays right, right bens , and matches what you want for a job,, go for it. There will always be class A jobs that you'll be able to find anywhere in the country. Those jobs will always be there no matter what, and even if you get the 1 year exp with the class B, if the job is a match with you , what difference does it make that it isn't A exp? What I mean is that if the job is awesome, why would you want to go anywhere else anyways? Unless the B job is seasonal or short term, then that's the route I personally would take, better pay for a vehicle that is easier to maneuver ( spelling) etc. Good luck which ever you decide, but like I said , if the job is long term and the dollars are right, go for it !

 

I have a buddy who drives with no CDL at all. Box truck, transports clean room laundry, stuff used in labs and clean room environments. . Everything is on wheeled carts. He is out of town 1 night a week, all the overtime he can stand. He made 65,000 last year. On track to make 67,000 this year. that company also has class b and class a jobs....im just waiting for an opening..... but the turnover is low!
Id go for the b job!

 

Here's what difference it makes. Class B experience isn't class A experience as far insurance companies are concerned. So you're right that class A jobs will always be out there. What you're wrong about is assuming they'll all be open to someone with mostly class B experience. They won't. Lots of them won't be open to someone with limited class A experience.

So I'm not saying the OP should pass on this job. But I think its important to realize there are potential down sides to taking a B job. Mainly that if you go into B and stay there, you will limit your job options in the future.

 

FedEx freight has a couple of positions off of Abington, North Billerica, NorthBorough and another location I cant remember.

They even have Driver apprentice positions.

Apply now cuz I dont know for how long they gonna be available for, but they do start off paying 21-23 an hour and its a 5 day a week, 40hrs guaranteed.

BTW am curious, did you go to Nettts in Pawtucket or to another campus???
