Mikel,
Thanks for the info. Conway is one of the one we are looking into. He is as we speak on his 2nd meeting with WIA to try to get funding for schooling.
The companies we are looking at is Conway, Crete and Scheinder.
With the sandwiches when we used to vacation we had a timeshare condo and to save on eating out we would use a small george forman grill, just the right size for one we cooked chicken breast and hamburgers and they cook so quick that I thought maybe you used something like. Thanks again.

I have a small g foreman grill at home too and that would be good to take .I just hate bad odors , I think that might smell the truck up.

Something I remember from our camping days is take a sponge with a little soap put in a ziplock. You can have another with just water. Use the scraper that comes with the grill. Then soap and rinse. I think this would work unless you nod off and burn your dinner. Also remember there is also frebreze or lysol.

With all this talk about coolers, refrigerators, microwaves, etc., if it's in your cab, it becomes a missile in the dreadful event of a collision. Be sure your gear is secured while driving. And make sure your rigging is solid.
About 15 years ago, near Eau Claire, WI, a state trooper's car was rear-ended on the interstate. One of the flashing blue/red lights in the rear window deck broke loose. Otherwise, the trooper would have survived the accident. -
I have read that a lot of people are carrying crock pots in the rig. One lady lines it with aluminum foil so it is easier to clean. They put the crock pot into a small crate and tie it down with a bungy cord. When she stops late in the morning she sets up the crock pot and lets it cook until she is ready to quit for the day. Then has a tasty meal ready to go. Much healthier I would think.

The one thing you need to think about is get your year up then think about who's better as better company's have higher standards.
Your first job will also depend on your driving as well as work history.
BS comes with all company's when it comes to new drivers as well as the vets after all 6 months down the road you may hate the job and want out.
Good luck -
Conway takes you in and you go to there classes for a week at crowder which is very good and then with trainer. No contract just keep your nose clean and 6pak says stay a year and rethink things . But I have not had any BS . So do what you think is better isnt crete a refer company? Im not sure but have fun waiting at a grocery whse .
I think CFI/ Conway is a good company to start.
As far as local goes no. You would have to go with conway frieght for that . Then you would be working the docks loading trucks not driving only when they needed you .Which meens you could be there 8mnths and not even see the inside of a truck cab.Good luck -
Crete/shaffer are good companies according to a lot of people and they are hard to get into if you don't have a PTDI certified school. Find a place to do a year and then if you want to go to crete/shaffer go for it. Remember to look local,If your getting out of school in the next 4 weeks you'll be surprised how many local jobs start opening up because the need people to cover vacations & as freight picks up. Best of Luck,Keep us posted. Ps, If you've been following mikes post you'd know that conway truckload has been very good to him and cfiteam. -
Mikel,
I have been keeping up with your posts on the orientation week and behind the wheel for 3 weeks. I just talked to a recruiter at conway today and was told to report to Joplin on May 27. I am really excited about getting started. I have been out of school in Sherman, Texas for a week and I have my CDL. I am ready to go. Thanks for all of the information you provided. It did help my decision making.
