########, benzos will not show up on a five panel drug screen,,,it will on a 7 panel,,,but pre-employment screens are 5 panel. IF you are in a serious accident maybe a 7 panel,,,,,7 panels are a lot more expensive, than the 5 (THC, COKE, METH, OPIATES, an PCP)

 

This is true, but the large companies that pay well are doing hair samples now to stay ahead of the game. In my case I'm not getting a 6,000 dollar loan to get trained up only to get the cold shoulder from the big companies that I planned on working for because I take Kolonopin. I make 30,000 per year driving a box truck, and stay in shape from throwing 3-5 thousand lbs of bagged clothes per night. No reason for me to seemingly waste money to get all the CDLs just to get shut down by the big companies because they think I'll fall asleep, or I snort the things, or take them for fun. I'm leaving now to run my 10-12 hour rt. Watch out if you are in Ohio anywhere from Akron over to Mansfield down to Columbus over to New Philly and back up to Youngstown tonight, because I took a Kolonopin when I woke up. According to the government and the big companies I will fall asleep and crash. Never mind that I have done this rt once a week for 2 years, or that if I do get sleepy I pull over and take a nap. Never mind that I know me better than the government or big companies do. Since I take a Klonopin I am a danger to everyone on the roads.........according to the wonderful and extremely smart U.S. government and big trucking companies.

 

just because you take it and do things to mitigate the risk of you killing someone doesn't mean others are intelligent enough to do the same thing >>>> this is the reason why there is a blanket rule on some of these types of drugs.

Clonazepam, which is the real name of that drug, I don't worry about the issue of falling asleep but rather what I've seen with people using it long term, loss of motor functions under stress triggered by an 'event'.

I know I know it don't happen to you but you don't know if it couldn't happen to you.

 

The really large companies are not where the money is at.

 

Stay where you are, they'll never appreciate you.

 

I was just going by what the driving school I was going to go to told me. I'm not married and have no children, so I'm fairly certain that I would not mind being on the road for a long time and sleeping in trucks. I was lead to believe that long haul after long haul after long haul was where the cash was at. They pretty much told me the longer I could be gone the better, but they could be just telling me that because they get a kick back or something. IDK, I was excited and a little scared and all pumped to try it though.

 

I can see the concern..... I'm not unreasonable. Everyone that takes them has different problems (besides the folks that just abuse them). For me I get panic attacks for no reason usually when I am doing nothing. When I get them I get tachacardia (a really fast resting heart rate) 120 bpm begins to get uncomfortable..... at around 145 and over it feels like I am going to die. Though it is a rare thing, I am not immune to getting them while driving (again for no reason). I can tell when they will happen before it gets to DEFCOM 5 though. I have had them for over a decade, so I kind of know what to do to make them go away. In two years driving to get paid I had a bad one once in the company vehicle. I just kept myself under control and drove the truck to my appt complex. I then took 3 Konlopins to make it go away and went to sleep for like 5 hrs, woke up and then went back out. Obviously, if I were in a big truck far away I could not go to my appt. I would have to pull off and call it a day. One time in two years is equal to getting sick. I mean drivers have to get sick and like lay-up somewhere right? If it was a chronic problem I would not even be driving a box truck......believe me. It's all really embarrassing, and something you really don't want anyone to know. I suppose I understand the reasoning behind it. They can't just trust everyone to make the right decisions. I still don't have to like it though!!!

 

They will tell you not to take it while driving but no it is not banned same with pain meds you can only take narcotics on your 10 hour brake. I myself would not want to take anything that would slow down my reaction time Atlanta bypass....

Also he is wrong it is generally a 6 panel drug test.

Safety Dept. they can also give you guidance. Your questions can be informational, on how they will interpret its use. Such as: Myself, several years back, while training a student, i required an emergency root canal. The Dentist gave me a prescription containing a drug that my Safety Dept. stated, myself or my student will not be able to operate or sleep inside the truck while taking. i.e. if the pain increased to the point where i required the drugs useage, call them before, find a motel & take the medication after your truck is parked.
