Take care with the weather. You'll be running right through severe storms.

That will depend on the account. I understand some pay hourly. With others you get a lot of stop pay to make up for shorter miles. Wolfnyc seems to have a pretty good gig going with his Target dedicated.

If you are interested in doing dedicated then let your Driver Manager know and when opportunities come up you can throw your hat in the ring. I did that last December, knowing that the first quarter would be slow for solo OTR and landed that team dedicated account to keep a steady paycheck going. For me it turned out to be about a 10-15% raise in average take home.

When you get a dedicated offer you'll need to talk to that fleet manager or someone that knows what the deal is for that account. Figure out if it will work for you.

I got off the dedicated thing at the end of June and switched to being a mentor, and really like teaching. The money's better as well.

So one question, Lepton1: Does Lake Elsinore still stink, assuming there's any water in it? When I was transferred out of SoCal years ago, it smelled real bad.

Depends on the runs given, our longest run is Vegas at a little over 300 each way, besides Vegas we have dublin which is 233 each way etc and we have local stores within a few miles. I average about 500 miles a day and I work 5 days a week and home for 2, some weeks I could work 6 if I wanted to. We also are paid based on the dispatch range so for example 1-50 miles its 52cpm, 51-100 51cpm down to 37cpm for 300+ miles. If we get a backhaul it then splits the dispatch miles into 2 trips which then pays more per mile for all of it plus a stop pay. Some weeks are better than others, I probably only average $800 a week take home after taxes etc for 5 days, some weeks I can bring home over $1k especially during the busy time, I made just a little over $1k for this next check but I drove hard this past week.

My only problem with Swift is their nearest yard is in New Boston, Michigan, a pretty good drive from my house in Western Michigan. The traveling recruiter I asked said I would have to park my POV there, not take the truck home. If the information is still accurate, that's a bummer.

Doing a 10 at a Loves on I-70 an hour east of my unload in KC. Down to 30 mins on my 70, running on recaps.

Got a ppln to do a D/H at Owens Corning in KC after I unload in the morning. Been there several times, always a quick in and out without getting jacked around. Delivers in Tulsa Thursday morning. Not very long ways to go but it gets me away from Edwardsville planners...but into the Lancaster zone. Don't know if they have planners in OKC?

Noticed that you have been posting in the Swift section again, good to see your name again.

As usual, the recruiter is spewing a company line without telling you what really goes on. There are a few terminals, Phoenix for one, that you mostly have to park at the yard then go home. Mostly, though, each terminal is different with different policies even within a terminal depending on your driver leader.

Also, just because New Boston is the closest terminal to you doesn't mean that it has to be your home terminal. You don't necessarily have to be at your home terminal to take hometime. With proper notification to your manager, you can take home time any place in the country that you want to.

Anyway, general rule of thumb, 90 plus miles to home from terminal, you take the truck with you. Most times you can take your empty with you.
