That is great jdmredneck! It sounds like you have found a rare school that is actually teaching you to be a driver and not just teaching people to pass the test. I am impressed ......and grateful. The more we put good drivers out there the safer it is for everyone!

Mapreading is a skill a lot do not learn. A lot of new drivers depend on the GPS only, this is so bad for so many reasons. You are at a very good school.HometimeQueen, Cranky Yankee, Panhandle flash and 1 other person Thank this.

Good to hear about the tuition assistance with TA, Guess I need to talk to the school I am looking at about that. They are actually where I first heard about TA.
And forgot to tell you Jaso they are located at the Charlotte county airport if you want to collect a little recruiting while you are in the area and visiting with your parents.
And I guess I am a step ahead in map reading as I very rarely follow a GPS, My company put them in the vans but I have found that it was more trouble than it was worth for me. Needless to say that I have become very good friends with google earth and maps.jaso37 and HometimeQueen Thank this. -
tuition assitance all sounds good
but it is like buying a car
they give you more on a trade in or more off the sticker
they get the same in the endPanhandle flash and HometimeQueen Thank this. -
That's true, Pete. But good schools were pretty expensive years ago and from what I have heard they have doubled in cost, so this might give some an opportunity that they wouldn't be able to have otherwise. We paid for the King's out of pocket, it gave him more freedom to choose a carrier. What would be great is if these carriers would only reimburse for cdl schools that make the grade. It would help a little in eliminating some of these cdl mills that put unsafe people on the road.
Panhandle flash Thanks this. -
all i am saying is if the carrier says they will reimburse tuition they just pay you less to start with
i got my CDL thru unemployment Feds paid the whole thing

Dear TransAm, you will always have a special place in my memory as you are my first (trucking job) but I think we should start to see other people. For the record, I think TransAm feels about the same way about me right now.
I put in my two week notice today. I will be reading the past posts about jobs after TransAm, thanks for those. I may have to put off my planed trip to the Philippines to put in some time with a new employer before I take another leave. Panhandle, expect a private e-mail soon.wulfman75, dennisroc, HometimeQueen and 1 other person Thank this. -
I just wish that more people would look at vo-tech and community colleges for their training. Price is about a 1/3 to a 1/2, what these "for profit" places charge, and the training is usually better. It's been awhile now but think I paid $1500 for a 1 month course and another $800 or so for a place to stay. Was cheaper to stay, than drive there every day. Courses in OKC, private, were $6k at that time.
Got your email passport and responded. Sorry bout the downturn.
On a side note here.... I declare that today is kill a broker day!!!!! Am at a printing place in Atglen, PA, for a 1630 appt. Printing place says appt is 2000. ARRRGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!
