The girl I drive for has 9 trucks, her fiance has 5 and her mother has 2.
But, trucking is a volume business. 10 to pay for 1.

I've been a Fedex Ground contractor for nearly 10 years. The rate is much higher than $1.09. There is a base rate at around $1.35 that really turns out to be $1.68 for teams and $1.58 for solos after you factor in other rate programs they have in place. Factor in the good fuel prices and the discount programs they have on tires and other products and the rate really is decent. It's not the best by any means but it's good for the dedicated, weekends-off, no touch freight work that we do.

But more and more it seems like Fedex Ground is removing all those benefits so maybe it's not such a great company to pull for. What kind of per mile rates is everyone else getting?

It costs a $1 to run a truck

Union LTL companies pay .55 to .62 CPM plus benefits and pay on line 4 doing what you do.

What do you mean by "pay on line 4?"

So they pay .55 to .62 CPM to a driver? Plus good health benefits? If so then that's good pay. I was talking about owner/operator or contractor pay totals. But if a driver gets .55 to .62 then that's great, as long as you get consistent miles. We get about 3,000 miles on a good solo week (M-F) or about 5,000 to 6,000 on a team dedicated run which gets you to your home terminal every night and off every weekend. You'll get those miles every week, all year long. The consistent pay is what makes it worthwhile for both the driver and contractor. I can look back at 9 years and I've never had a bad year. The miles are always there and the home time really increases your quality of life.

It's a drop and hook operation, so lots of miles.
I know unions like ABF pay pension and full family health insurance

Don't throw ABF into this mess. Can't compare ABF with Fedex Ground. It's Apples and oranges and should be ashamed of yourself for resurrecting a dead thread and trying to compare a company driver versus sub -contractors. WTF dude ?!

Not sure you understand the huge difference. Still my brothers and sisters, still not company drivers.

FedexGround don't let this fool bait you on some weird agenda.
