why you do not want a automatic.

I've been in a loaner truck this week, a prostar with a maxxfarce and a 10 speed auto. IT SUCKS! Besides the fact that it's a maxxfarce, I do not like the auto, it hesitates and you cannot idle back under a trailer, you have to be on the throttle to make the thing move. To say I've slammed a few trailers this week would be an understatement. I'll be glad to get my Cascadia with a manual back tonight even though I probably won't have it long as they dealer can't seem to figure out the engine code it continually throws robbing the truck of loads of power... Dang EPA and their pollution BS!

We have autos at work, I can't stand it. It drives me nuts when you stop then try to start again and the dang thing is flashing trying to figure out what gear to be in. They shift way too soon and when I try to shift in manual mode it doesn't want to shift right.

In auto mode it forces us to hit 1800-2000 rpm when loaded before it shifts.

For a newbie s sake, come November 1st, if they road test in an automatic, they will have an "restricted to automatic transmission" endorsement on their CDL

Back when I drove I can remember seeing many automatics broken down on the side of the road. This was back then when drivers pulled over and helped each other out, so I know firsthand how bad those things used to be. Its probably from those experiences why I don't have much faith in them. I guess if you drove over mostly flat country they'd be fine, but for any serious grades I'd feel more safe with a manual tranny.

I believe that varies by state. Some states already do that.

You are right, they used to have a lot of problems, but the quality has greatly improved. Autos in cars used to be seen as unreliable a long time ago. Now nearly every car has an auto, and they get better mpg than the manuals. I think trucks are headed the same way eventually.

Our are constantly in the shop due to emissions but every now and then our transmissions will lock into a gear or won't go above a certain gear. Last night I was slowing down for a turn, transmission goes into 3rd then slams into 4th when I give it fuel. Sounded like I was grinding gears.
Ours will jerk the heck out of you. I had to get used to it and anticipate it. It's smooth when I'm empty but loaded it shifts early then realizes it has to downshift. Then it will skip shift when loaded and it causes extremely slow accelerations
