Recent truck school graduate needing some advice from Southern California.

I'm not sure USX does much for solo drivers in that one state.... Ca.

 

I started school about 9/12/2014 and got my license on 9/22/14, my schooling was only 2 hours a day and that wasn't 7 days a week. I had about 24 hours of school, within a week I was driving a seal tanker making $17 I started that job on 9/29/14 and now I just got hired doing the same thing but got bumped to $21 and its all local.

 

oh and I didn't have an endorsements and they still made me drive lol not through scales but everywhere else. since the foremans medical expired he shouldn't have been driving and neither I lol but I got them so scales here I come! I was having trouble downshifting the 9 and 10 speeds. one day got back to the yard and project manager made me go solo and dump asphalt and pick up a bobcat solo dolo! lol some how some way I did it and then next days after that I was the king at downshifting. its weird what you can accomplish when you have to. I guess I was getting too nervouse because my foreman was there and would downshift for me when I was struggling. all it took was one day alone and I mastered it. I love floating the gears.

 

why go otr when you can be local?

 

Where do you live? What city exactly? I got my license 9/22/14 and was driving locally 9/29/14.

 

Watkins-Shepard is 10 days minimum, but you can train longer if you want.
10 days is enough for dry van or reefer. Trust me, after 10 days you will be thrilled to get out from under a trainer. You have to be a really slow learner to need more than 10 days.

Jim Palmer is a reefer outfit that's been around a long time. Used to be based in Missoula, MT then some Chicago investment group bought it and now I think Wil-Trans owns it. They used to haul lots of refrigerated stuff out of Florida and had a terminal somewhere in Central Florida. At one time they were considered one of the best refrigerated companies around and required 2 yrs. experience.

Ceva, Reddaway, Central Freight Lines are local; but, that's no fun! That's like joining the Navy and not wanting to travel outside the USA.
