Got one 5 years ago. Never used it.
-
Hauling tankers I use it regularly.

Paid off for me at least 5 times a year and got me a LOT more money because I had it. Some places demand it and no escorts are available like a Navy base.
-
We pull some reefer loads out of the ports... I might see a couple every year. That will be enough to pay for it in a couple of years. Escort fees of $20 to $50 plus the hassle of dealing with that add up quickly.

thanks, ive already been ask twice if i had one to go to port and a base, looks like for the investment and how long its good for may be worth to get it one time and see.

Depends a lot on what you haul.
jbatmick Thanks this. -
I just renewed mine this year. I have used it a number of times. I don't remember how many times a year I have used it. I never saw the need to keep track. Having the TWIC has enabled me to get loads that I would not have been able to get otherwise. Not all ports allow escorts. It is not just ports that require the TWIC. Power plants and some military bases and shippers also require the TWIC. It can save time having the card. You can pay $75-125 at some ports for an escort. Even if you only used it once or twice you would get your money back. I didn't want to spend the money for the TWIC, but since it is required to get into some facilities which I need to go, it has been of benefit to me. I have a friend who has never bothered and it has not been a problem for him. They discount the cost if you have the hazmat endorsement on your CDL.
