Only have my fiance but she's on board and have her full support in whatever I choose to do. I have all my endorsements and in the background process for my Hazmat right now.
Honestly, I am leaning towards Jim Palmer because they do Reefer and with Reefer that seems like it would be consistent work. However, the training period of 60,000 miles is quite long but I feel is the better of the training programs as I wouldn't be thrown to the wolves in a few weeks. I'm not sure though. Downfall to that is I'm stuck with a trainer and perhaps will be ran as team for a few months.
I feel most of what I learn will be from being out on the road on my own. So maybe Watkins-Shepard is a better fit? ERrrrg so hard choosing!

I'm not familiar with Cali, but if you are near a major city it is pretty easy to find local work. alot of them dont advertise because they dont need to because they get enough applicants
-
So if Jim Palmer were an option should I take it or should I maybe look into Schneider, Werner or Watkins-Shepard. I'm narrowing down my list...
-
I heard werner sucks. But that's just what I heard.
-
So have I, but I also heard from the CEO when he visited the yard out in Fontana, CA that they will be updating their equipment to 2015's as they are phasing out their older equipment. This basically means less breakdowns which means more $$$ hopefully. If I don't go with Jim Palmer or Werner then it will be one of the other two. Although SWIFT just did their pay rate increase too! At the end of it all, I just want to run miles and make $$$. So trying to find a company that offers a lot of miles or has something stable with some added perks if possible.

I think you need to expand your search. I have not worked for either, but have heard from many people that swift and werner Are 2 of the worst companies to work for. -
I guess that makes sense too which would be the reason they are increasing their payrate in the first place to try and get drivers...
-
From what I have seen most of the companies that advertise a lot and send recruiters to schools are the lower companies that can't keep drivers. The better companies don't need to advertise because people find them

Well, Jim Palmer Trucking fell through so I'm back to having to decide again. So the list is: Melton, Schneider, Werner or Watkins-Shepard. Any other ideas?
The new idea is to team up with another student that we'll be graduating together and working 4 months to get our $7500 bonus from Werner. Then go on the solo slip seat account to pick up another $2500 bonus by then I should have close to a year of experience and might be able to move on. Or I could just stick it out another year to gain more experience and then move on.Last edited: Oct 15, 2014
