I like when they say "we always get this done for $...". If that was true he would not have come up $800.
Nice work for "sticking to your guns." I think you handled this the way the first guy should have.

You need to take a deep breath and don't let this job get to you. Remember that YOU determine your rates. If you let TQL an CH tell you what a load pays, don't be mad at them. They have their job and you got yours. You should keep a list of the extensions of the TQL brokers so you remember who disrespected you and refuse to do a load for them in the future. They WILL call you again someday.

Don't get me wrong, I hate TQL but Houston blows for flatbed freight going to anywhere except ND. $1,650 isn't bad gong to Atlanta which is a gold mine for flatbed freight. I would have maybe taken it. Sitting for a day can cost you up to $600 in lost profit so that f@#* you can be pretty pricey!

So, what happened? Sit for a day, still sitting there or did you get a load?

You can get half way decent stuff out of Houston. You just need to stand your ground...
And yes there are times I have bounced out of Houston as well. I will not haul heavy haul for flatbed rates...

There is no stand your ground. It's not you and the broker. It's you, 1,000 other trucks and the broker when your in that area. If your in Charlotte or Chicago it's the other way around.

I always get out of Houston with decent miles and rates, I dont do no $1.60 a mile crap. For that i park the truck and work for someone else. Its all about having patients. Also, Chicago and Charlotte are becoming a toilet that keeps getting flush with guys doing cheap rates. Sooner a later everyone will be accepting $1.60 less a mile like if its GOLD. That whole 1,000 guys around me are excuses. No wonder rates on open deck are getting near dry van rates, if not the same.
People keep doing them rates and complaining at the truck stop. But point at yourself before pointing at others and realize what your doing wrong.
