fifth wheel location

    The length of your wheelbase plays a part in how much of a difference in weight distribution sliding your fifth wheel will make. The shorter your wheel base, the more pronounced the effect is.

    I typically use a short trailer to do my route, although sometimes they like to stick me with a 48'. With that I need the wheelbase as short as I can get, with the fifth wheel and the trailer axles slid forward, just to be able to get around with it.

    Yeah, seen 450 lbs/notch on daycabs and 300-350 lbs/notch on sleepers...and slides/notches differ on different trucks---Petes, Volvos, etc. Best just to go out and move it and see what happens for 'your' truck!!
