    A few other notes:

    1. I was told that they try to find someone compatible for you to team drive with. I'm curious to see how that goes, although I can get along with anyone so it's not a big deal.

    2. For anyone curious, I was told that it could be 5 years before I have a chance at a different position (solo, local, etc) but the manager said it depends on company growth and how many people retire/quit/etc.

    3. I was told the team runs were about 50/50 eastern US and western US in a given year.

    4. If you go through the OD driver training you have to drive with them for at least one year.

As long as you can get along with your partner you should be fine, most times I only spent 1 hr with my partner while driving team(we ate dinner together that's about it), unless we were on layover. I think ODFL will be a great opportunity for you, and many people will be retiring in the next 10 years.(statistics say majority of cdl drivers on the road believe it or not)

Do any current or former OD employees have advice on healthcare and 401K? They gave me a packet with the 2 different healthcare plans, but I honestly don't know which route to go.

Get into the 401K as soon as possible and let that money grow. Over time it can be real nice. With health insurance pick whatever is the best you may want to discuss this with your wife or have HR walk you through it. In regards to 401K they will be matching you with OD stock more than likely. For investment choices you should have an array of options such as OD stock, mid cap stocks, bonds, international. Don't put all you eggs in one basket but spread out you percentages among the different investment choices based on you tolerance for risk.

Go with the co-pay plan for your health care. It isn't free (55/week for employee + spouse) but it is a good plan.

Does OD call and set up your physical for you? I got a voicemail informing me of an appointment that I never made. I don't know what else it would be for. Didn't know if anyone else had this experience when they were hired.

    New Update:

Today I went to my terminal to take a class on hazmat. It just involved watching these old videos and then we took the tests as a class. For the new hires, we had some extra videos to watch. They were just the typical welcome to the family videos.

After all the videos and paperwork, they sent me and the other new guy to take our physicals. I was nervous about it, but everything was fine and I now have my card! The last week of this month I start yard time. In the meantime I have to get my permit.

Well good luck I am a trainer for old dominion and the thing is just keep a calm mindset there is a lot to learn in a little time the thing is just listen and ask questions I spent several years at not such great companys and regret it you made a wise decision to start with a repitubale company if you got any questions in regards to training or driving feel free to ask I have over 2.5 million miles accident free and have been a trainer for several companys
