Depends on what you did. What happened?

Pushed forward the left side batwing on a Cascadia. My family had decided not to tell me that my grandmother (who I knew was not in great health) had taken a turn for the worse because they didn't want me worrying while out on the road. I got a call from my Dad that Tuesday (while still broke down in Dallas) that she passed away and I needed to get home to hop on a plane back to Jersey for a funeral. I was in a loaner truck (too heavy for the 46K load hence why I was still at the OC) at the Dallas OC. They finally had a DSM truck ready I could get in and take home for the funeral (the pod truck I was driving still wasn't ready). I dropped the loaded trailer I had as a relay (they got me a load straight home) and pulled the loaner truck nose first into one of the two open spots right next to the trailer. I then got in the "new" truck and went to back it between the trailer and the loaner truck so I could open both passenger side doors and quickly transfer my gear between the trucks. With getting blindsided by the news I lost focus for a second. I made sure that I was plenty clear of the loaner truck but didn't go back and double check the left side mirror to make sure I was clear of the trailer and hit it with the left bat wing on the right front of the trailer. I wasn't going fast or anything. One of our dbl's in DSM talked to me and was able to get me calmed down and I made it safely back to the OC without further incident. I'm not trying to use the death as an excuse but those are the facts. DSM understood everything that was going on and were great about the whole situation. That said it should have NEVER happened and, as I said, the death is not an excuse but the incident did occur and now I have to face the consequences of my actions. As of now I still have a job but I will find out more on Wed. I hope my resume is in good shape.stevep1977 Thanks this.

Sorry to hear that man...
I wouldn't worry about it though. Accidents happen and Schneider knows that. If you lie about it they will terminate you. If you are honest, which you obviously were, you have nothing to worry about. They'll probably have you do a proper coupling and probably have you do slow maneuvering around the yard, then you'll definitely have to watch boring CBT's and then an OSR will probably have a talk with you.mickimause Thanks this. -
Thanks. I appreciate it. We only have one OSR (John, who happens to be a fellow NASCAR fan so we get along well lol) so he will be doing all of it with me (confirmed via a phone call today). I know I shouldn't worry but I'm a big worry wort. I'm ALWAYS worrying about something.
Also there goes my chance of ever going IC.Last edited: Oct 21, 2014

Nope, you'll be able to eventually. Think it might be 6 month accident free but might be longer. But I had a minor preventable a couple years ago and it's not an issue
-
Thanks for the info. Maybe other IC's can chime in on this.

They say 6 months without a preventable before you can apply to become an IC. They also take into consideration the severity of the preventable. I bent the fairing of my first company truck on a treebranch in my driveway the summer of 2013 and became an IC that November.
I wouldn't lose any sleep over losing your job over this. It happened, you admitted it, you learn from it and move on. That's life.
Sorry to hear about your grandmother. I'm glad to see SNI took care to get you back for her funeral. -

At home again. Had a real important appointment yesterday. I'll find out the results tomorrow, so I'm taking time off until then.
