Mark if you remember I posted about no map updates several weeks ago saying same thing that RM was doing this to force us to buy new units also. I have called RM and their exact answer was "no foreseeable date for map updates for older units". This is what you called marketing decision.

If that is true, I will switch to garmin. No point having lifetime map updates without any maps...who knows if they make another "breakthrough" like the x30 series & programming becomes obsolete for legacy devices.

I called couple times and asked about the updates. The second time I called is when they said no date scheduled. But they did give me a reason for it. Said they are working on fixing bugs on new model now and after that will put out the updates for us. Told him that wasn't much of a consolation.

Sure, alienate current customers, while trying to create a whole new product for a nitch market

Okay, this is not true. Yes, some bugs are being fixed at the same time this does not affect the decision for releasing the maps to the x10 and the x20 models.

Due to hardware/software a few bugs were found and have been fixed, this is in QA being tested for the x30 models.

I really cannot go into the details of the holdup on the map release for the x10/x20 models. Until RM releases a public announcement I cannot say anything. It has nothing to do with the "forcing" of getting customers to buy the x30 models.

Let's not make this a "big" snowball. Yes the map release is way past due for current users.

All I can say is just hang on. I know the issues and I really do not know which way RM will go with the business decision for the release of the maps for the x10/x20 models.

    Thanks,
    Mark

Some issues have to be worked out for the new maps for the x10/x20 models. I cannot say what issues as it would let the cat out of the hat so to speak.

Given that Kevin Rutherford on Road Dog is saying that something "exciting is coming in the first quarter of 2015", and you are almost sayings the same thing, I have no doubt that RM is releasing a whole new model that will incorporate everything from the last few releases into one all around great product that revolutionizes the gps community...

I can only comment on products that have been publically announced by RM. I do know things, but I am not sure what Kevin is referring to. This part is all marketing which I am not involved in.

    Thanks,
    Mark

He was specifically addressing a caller who asked him what gps he should consider, Kevin in turn told him if he didnt need it right away to wait because there was something getting release in the first quarter that was going to blow away the gps industry. Since he talks about how great the RM products are without bashing the others, its only plausible whats happening. But thanks for the reply

KR is pimping RM now? 6-12 months ago he was blasting them for buggy hardware.

Notes of the day, most of which have probably long since been fixed on the suppressed map release:

i40 wb in TN, exit 87 Loves -- RM wants to exit ~5 miles early and take surface streets. There is also a 2nd truck stop at this exit that is not in the system.

There is a fuel-only truck stop at 2980 Thomas Street in Memphis, TN (i40 exit 2A)

i40 generally goes east & west. 2 of the rest areas in Arkansas are listed as i40 nb/sb which is unnecessarily confusing.
