As a personal note, Prime and FFE is just alike and doing the very same thing by sponging off of their drivers as I was victimized by FFE. Thanks for the warning regarding Prime as it seems that Prime & FFE are one in the same! FFE=Poorhouse, Starving to death, stealing fuel surcharge and detention pay!
They are also very arrogant RUDE! -
Actually spoke with another satisfied Prime driver today who said she is netting $1,500 average per week after all expenses. She also said that of the various companies she has driven for Prime is the best and they are the most lenient; giving the driver the freedom to run his/her business. I guess she understands that Prime rents you a tool to do your business then provides the freight to get you paid. She said they also let you choose your route and the computer will give you the discounts for the route you end up on. She DID say that if you start refusing loads then miles will drop and things won't be so good. She had friends she knew that had done that.
Still sounds like if you understand the business aspect of the Prime model and are willing to do a good job you can do quite well there. Lest one would say, "Yeah but you got to run all the time," I spoke with a driver the other day who says he stays out 2-3 weeks at a time (like many other companies want you to do) and is netting between $1,600 to $1,800 per week. -
and what's wrong with staying out several weeks at a time?
it would seem that with a sizable trk. pmt that would be a necessity till you can get it paid off
for those that can get home more frequently or on weekends god bless em!
but do/can they make as much? -
Now that my son is graduating, I have no problem with it. In fact I prefer what one driver said he does. He will run for 5 weeks then take a week off. During that five weeks he puts aside enough to cover the fixed expenses for that one week. And, where Prime says they will keep freight on you, that is fine. I don't particularly want to be away from home for 5 weeks doing 34 hour restarts every few days because of no freight. When I leave the house, I want to run.yendor_65 Thanks this.

I agree with you man. I haven't even decided to jump back in yet but you know where I'm looking and why. I've talked to way too many drivers for Prime, including a #### load of company guys, which is what I'm looking at, to not take them seriously. I'm driving local here in Philly and looking to make the jump back into big trucks from boxes and I've done a hell of a lot of homework over the last year. I don't want to waste company X's time nor mine and I've talked to too many guys over at Prime that things are working out for them. I don't necessarily think leasing is the best route but for quite a number over there it is and if it's working for them so be it. People can complain all they want but look at the size of that company and the number of HAPPY drivers making some cabbage there. To each his own, as I said maybe not for me at this point but come on. Some of us here are into blondes, brunettes, or fire bush, so what...If it works it works....I would love to be able to buy a rig but I can't just yet, probably wouldn't lease with anyone myself, but if it's working for so many, give 'em a little respect it ain't y'all haters dime supporting 'em, what the hell do any of you really care? -
Yep, one of the most expensive tools in the industry before Prime takes their cut.
I know a team at May trucking who signed on a old Penske rental truck that cost them 29k plus the cost of a new drive train and run 48 states and have only had to get the a/c fixed since they bought it. They run about 20k to 24k a month and don't have to pay for high miles or get nickle and dimmed every month like a Prime rental driver. They will have the truck payed for in another 6 months
It is human nature not to go around bragging to other drivers how much money you are not making or is being snatched out of your settlement each month. Painting a rosy picture is as common for OTR lease drivers as it is for recruiters it seems. Prime makes money off of just about everything from the lease to parts to fuel unless you think they charge the drivers what they pay for it?

it is better to go there knowing more then what some are telling you need someone to sit down with you and tell you how to do things there way to make it with prime when i was there i made money but you got to stay out and go right by there ways thats not in a book you got find someone thats been there for 3-5 yrs that will tell you how to do it and yes there is alot that has been there that long and longer thats makeing it good
