What Joseph is saying is that they pay per mile, but how much you earn is a variable. Like any other company that pays mileage (or even percentage), your weekly earnings will vary from week to week. How much you earn will depend on how hard you want to run, how you are dispatched, weather conditions, traffic conditions, freight volumes, etc. There really isn't a set weekly paycheck in trucking.

Most full time LTL drivers at major companies (Fed Ex, OD, ABF, etc) make over 80k/year and are home regularly. I'll make 80k driving a grocery truck (no touch), but you're right about not liking the job. Some guys hate their lives where I work (and I'm sure at other places), so it's definitely a balance.

I'm parked next to a TRI-HI rig. On the trailer door it says:
    "Drivers Wanted"
    "NO EAST COAST!!!!"

Yep yep, still riding out. Starting to dabble into canada runs. They handed off their east coast operations to USX and now only operate out of Texas. I and handful of other drivers from Florida are still with Arnold. Just running the southwest and then get booked a load back to Florida when it's hometime. Best part about it is they book a hazmat load out of Georgia out to California once hometime is done. I left jacksonville Monday morning, deadhead to Atlanta and picked up a load and was in Bakersfield, California Thursday morning. Picked up Friday morning in Boron, California and delivering here in Odessa, Texas in the morning. 3,792 miles in 5 1/2 days.

Curious as to how the Canada stuff is going to play out. I get to be the guinea pig on the first load.
