Sounds like it is time for you to go solo. I thought I was the only one who was so old and crotchety and set in my ways that I did not particularly like teaming! Actually, the only good thing I can say about teaming, is that if my co-driver was a good one, there is nothing as relaxing as sleeping while those wheels are turning!
My teammate just bailed. I am devastated.

Yes I understand there are companies that run totally on teams, but the way the OP talks, ready to jump infront of the bus rather than get on and get another job? but why cant the company find this driver another co-driver? is that the responsibility of the driver to find a co-driver? but my previous post was to point out there are many jobs out there that dont require a co-driver, all is not lost do to not having a co-drivermje Thanks this.

I was ready to jump in front of a bus because of everything I went through to get there only to have the guy flake. He's the one who talked me into teaming with him in the first place and then he makes up a ####adoodle excuse to leave me hanging. The company even offered to pay for him to see a doctor in town, but golly no. His doctor is the only legitimate doctor on the planet. Meanwhile, I was laid-off from my railroad job and I walked away from my other one to do this. No going back there. I was also stuck with a car rental bill of nearly $700 because I couldn't get out of Kansas City on Greyhound (frozen roads and weather due to the 2014 January vortex). I was threatened with losing our truck if I didn't get to Orientation by Wednesday. Then I find I have no job because my partner walked off and the only owners I knew of only ran teams. So, yeah. I had some feelings about it.

I love being solo, but that's not how this company works. Truth be told, I have a former CDL classmate I could easily team with, but he won't leave May Trucking Company and his wife probably wouldn't be okay with me being in a truck with him 24/7 even though there is no sort of attraction between us.mje Thanks this.

I coulda used a codriver today. Had to turn down a 500 mile run. Pick up at 8pm deliver at 9am. Add 30 .in to pickup and 30 min break, its already 14 hours. With absolutely no slowdowns and stuck at consignee for 10 hours. And its snow/sleeting so the roads will be wet. Windy enuf the truck is rocking. Going to hit 28f or so tonite. With 2 drivers, a piece of cake.
Sometimes solo sucks.
I hate winter. Being stuck in Laredo beats sittin in Indy in this weather. :0)DedicatedDriver and MidwestResident Thank this. -
Bet'ch that load could have been adjusted for the delay and delivered within the time that you had on the clock.
If it was critical, they would have "found" a team to take it straight through and not even offered it to a solo.
As for Panther and FedEx preferring teams, they do but they have solos. Teams may look great on paper but it is hard making a living while sitting in a truck with another person who you are not married to and share the income and expenses. Owners who demand teams seem to be short sighted, especially one that I know.mje Thanks this. -
I truly hope when you say "I was ready to jump in front of a bus" your talking metaphorically, because this is just a small bump in the road of life, I have to assume your still fairly young? and harder thing to overcome can and more then likely will happen, I read in another post, that you said you love being solo, If this is a true statement, whats wrong with just going to another company? you don't need to live in the same state the company is in to drive for them? But if you are not talking metaphorically? maybe you should get some counseling, this is nothing to end your life overmje Thanks this.

ROFLMAO! You are right crzy, but I really don't think she was even close to being serious there. She just doesn't strike me as the type. . .
"The bus leaves at noon. Be UNDER it!"
