I feel for you fuel guys. Some of the gas stations you have to get into really are a pain. Add to that the fact that due to the position of the hookups on your trailer sometimes you can't face the way that allows you to not have to back out onto a busy road.

We have several stores in Jacksonville that, because of the location of the fuel drops on the ground, we have to pull in straight then back out into traffic or across all lanes.

It can be very dangerous for sure. A lot of the stores are very difficult to get in and out of. I'm glad I work night shift, much easier getting into stores with less customers, less traffic, and I get paid extra for working nights

Watched a veteran fuel tanker driver pull into the local stop n rob the other day. The fella brother driver just couldn't win. The Property was filled with adjacent High School Football stadium fans parked in every conceivable space and no way to get a proper setup. I was taking my 30 minute break in the other parking lot seen the entire situation, Then the stop n rob employee had a bright idea to set up cones ( too late ). Never did see how long it took the fueler to get set up.

Whomever requested that delivery time, sure as heck mucked up this driver.
The driver couldn't do anything except sit on his hands, Being paid hourly sure helps. Felt for this driver that day. A little pre planning on others behalf sure would of helped !

We have a store right across from the University of Florida campus, it's supposed to be a 0100-0400 delivery only because you have to pull across all 4 lanes of the busiest intersection in Gainesville and sight side back.

The parking spaces on top of the fuel drops have a 15 minute limit. I'll get out and tell people to move, if they refuse to I call the tow company that roams that area. When they show up everyone scatters lol.

I'm not hourly so I don't waste any time if I don't have too.

I'm not grasping the salary differences between ltl and otr. 80 k vs 40 k seems like a no brainer. Where does the double income come from?

Unloading heavy cargo, sometimes without a dock. 10 Or more stops per day vs 1 stop every couple days. more backing, a lot more city driving....

I work ltl and looks like I'll be doing 85k or around that this year. OTR was a heck of a lot funner and I made 66k a year doing that. I sure drove a lot more miles for that money and didn't get any of the hourly or other perks I do in ltl. I'm not on a bid run yet by my own choosing cause I get more miles. I can only speak for my company and not FFE cause I know nothing about them. ltl pros are higher pay, way better benefits, home every night or every other night, sleep in a hotel or at home not in a truck, treat you better overall. Cons are mostly all night runs, going to the same places every night, being on call, I have to deal with junk equipment, still not home hardly ever but to sleep. I liked dedicated OTR the best. I still knew when I was gonna be home, worked mostly days, had nice equipment, I was dedicated but still had changes of scenery, still made decent money. Guess it all boils down to what you really need or want. I personally can't stand ltl and once my daughter graduates I'm back on the open road.
