Hey all, Just wanted to say hey to all the forum regulars. I've been reading it for awhile now and decided I may as well register and get the full benefits.
I was wondering how far in advance should I start contacting recruiters regarding company training?
Thanks for any and all future advice.

Couple of months at the most.
Start researching companies and put in some applications.
There's probably a couple dozen that hire in your area.

One thing I have found is some companies won't hire from my area. Why is that? I have no ties to Fla and am willing to be based anywhere I'm needed.Chinatown Thanks this. -
Which address are you using on your job applications? If you're using a Florida address, then that's the problem. Which companies have approved you?fieldchaser Thanks this.

None of the companies I have applied to have said that. The ones that do on their I haven't applied to.
I used Florida as that is where my drivers license is from. None of the companies have approved me yet and I have only heard from one recruiter for Swift and I let him know I was not needing to be based in Fla. -
Swift is a good company to start with. Lots of drivers stay there for years.
Midwest-coast Transport is headquartered in Auburndale and has their own CDL school. Coast to coast reefer outfit.fieldchaser Thanks this. -
So you think I would have better luck with a company that has a terminal in Fla than trying to relocate elsewhere?
Swift told me I would be based out of Ocala if I hired on.Chinatown Thanks this. -
Not really better luck. Several companies with their own CDL training hire in Florida. Swift is as good as any. Don't have to relocate unless you're just tired of Florida. If you're comfortable with living in Florida, then stay put and take one of the job offers you will get. After you get on the road, look around for another domicile in another state that also has no personal income tax. Probably won't even have to change jobs, just give whoever you're working for a change of address.
Houston
San Antonio
Laredo
El Paso
Las Vegas
Reno
Several good places where you won't have to change companies.fieldchaser Thanks this. -
Been Pre-approved for Stevens. If all goes well I'll start training in Denver on 1/15
Chinatown Thanks this.
