I'm P&D, but they have me doing a little bit of everything besides dock work. Shuttling trailers to different terminals and the railyards, combined with P&D, this week I'm doing linehaul.. so they keeping me busy...

I think you made the right choice. I would've chosen Estes over FXF just from things I've heard from drivers by me. The senoir guys are happy but the lower guys aren't. IF they go union I know of few my my co-workers said they are going to them. They should wait till the kinks are out before hand.

i never knew you guys used the rail. When I worked at YRC it was just us, ABF and ups parcel there... And then the sub-contractors for UPSF

Yeah I was suprised they had the rail too... I use to do intermodal with another company in the rails and I only saw ,YRC, ABF, UPS, also... I never saw estes in there.. It good for guys that like to work nights because it give you more options to make money. if you dont wanna get stuck on linehaul, you can shuttle and/or work the rails, or P&D..

Initially my mind was set on going to fedx, I took the job at estes just to make some money in the mean time and to get a good feel for estes because I heard good things about them, and I wanted to find out for myself. After a few days of working at estes I said to myself....This place is pretty cool, and by the end of the week I was already dialed in.. So when fedx finally called with the start date is said to myself if I leave estes to go to fedx and it sucks, ima be pissed...and i rather not work the dock, at estes you only see the dock when you going to your truck.. thats it..so i decided it wasnt worth the risk going to fed x

Yea if your somewhere good, it's hard to think. I made that mistake when I left YRC to go to another LTL that I thought was he holy grail but was miserable the whole time there.mimleft there for another LTL and this one besides the old ancient equipment is tolerable and management is good to me. I even fixed the problem route when they gave it to me which I get along with all my customers.

I work for Estes out of the Fresno Terminal. You will start out on the extra board. Right now is when we are beginning to slow down. There is no guarantee you will work every day. You could be home a few nights a week or stay out as long as you like. Start is .495 mi + 4.00 hook/break your sets and 10.00hr for pre/post/fuel. Be prepared to chain up we have em we use em. Benefits are cheap but not that great. Fed Ex is the largest LTL carrier and that's were I would go. Good luck

@ Gazzoo64...I decided to go with estes, .I'm hired as a P&D driver but they using me like im on a extra board which I actually like and I dont have to work the dock. NO DOCK WORK great pay(they starting me off more than .49cpm)and a layed back atmosphere that you dont often see at freight carriers was the deciding factor for me. @ fed ex they told me its 75% dock work, and my gut told me I would probably regret leaving estes for fed ex because I perfer driving instead of dock work. I'm aware of the slow season coming up, thats fine, every industry has its slow period at certain times of the year.

I dont buy into the bigger is better deal...look at USF Reddaway vs SAIA for example..Reddaway is a much bigger company because they're apart of YRC, they do get free medical but from what i hear its garbage and they start off at $16 dollars and hour OT after 8, some dock work too, and old equipment... SAIA is smaller, and the pay is better, ($19-23 per hr/53+cpm) OT after 40 hours, great benefits, new equipment and no dock work.. im sure they're are more examples or better examples but thats just my opinion.

Now if it was Fed Ex Express I would have gave it shot, Fed Ex Express is a different operation than Fed Ex Freight, Similar to UPS and UPS freight.
