I'm doing research on the mpg of different trucks and don't trust the numbers manufacturer publish. What is the real mpg you get when you
- are full (I guess 45k lb)
- empty and with trailer
What equipment are you running?

I have an 09 International Prostar with 07 MaxxForce 475hp that pulls flatbed. When at gross averaging 6.8mpg, @ 68 mph and empty 10.0mpg - 10.5 depending on my right foot.

Bobtail (18,250 lb):
55mph: 12.5-14mpg
Empty (32,500 lb):
55mph 9.5-11mpg
65mph 8-9.5mpg
Fully Loaded (80,000 lb):
55mph 6.5-8.5mpg
65mph 5.5-7.5mpg
The range is because there is that much variance depending on terrain & wind.NI39601 Thanks this. -
2014 international lone star empty mpg has been reading 7-8 . loaded is around 6.1-6.5. I'm hauling 43,000 in the box and going through the West Va mountains still is above 6 mpg. This maxxforce is a brute compared to the dd15 I had.

New D13 with 34k running heavy and fast (5 over speed limit)averaging 6.0.
With the auto shift it is without a doubt the most awesome truck I have ever driven.
Power is amazing. -
2005 Columbia
Pre emissions ACERT C15 435hp
10 spd , 3.55 axle ratio.
Pulling 53' step deck.
Wheels are 22.5 running 275/80 lo pro tires on steers and 295/80 on drives.
I run 110 psi in steers. 100 psi in drives and 110 psi in 255/70 22.5 trailer tires.
Empty weight full of fuel is 33,400 lbs
Empty I get 5.7 - 6.78 mpg.
Loaded can be anywhere from mid 4's in the mountains up to 6.23 mpg.
Wanted to add....
Over all average loaded has been 5.5 - 5.8 mpg.
I run 63 - 65 mph when loaded. 68 - 70 when empty.
Speed has probably the biggest impact on mpg when loaded.
Much depends on type of load, location and terrain. Also traffic can also have adverse effects as well.
All measurements are done old school, measuring each tank, gals vs miles.
C15.. love the torque. Great pulling up hills. But you pay for it at the pumps.

cummins isx with full egr/dpf delete and ecm tune
13 spd 3.58 rears
110psi in steers and 100psi drives
pull auto freight in 53' van that has side skirts and wide based tires
run Ontario to Tenn with 36000lbs south and 24000lbs north back
90 day average pen and paper miles/gallons driving 58 mph is 7.8mpg us -

Empty, no idea...truck rarely moves empty and when it does, not far enough for me to give any sort of mpg.
Loaded:
Weight doesn't seem to make a huge difference.
55 I get about 7
65 gets around 6.25
70 gets around 6
75 gets around 5.7
80 gets 5.5
85 gets about 4.
I shudder to think if I went full hammer mode in the big hole and ran 90+... -
I'm looking at a 2003 379 exhd with 13 spd and a CAT under the hood. I'd be pulling a step deck hauling just about anything. My main hesitation is the 379 notorious reputation for hauling between 4 - 5 mpg.
Its almost too good of a price to turn away from and I've wanted a 379 for a long time now. But business is business. I dont want to pay just to have a 379.
