The fair labor act says you have to pay for breaks? I know salary paid workers are usually paid for their breaks since their salaried. Though I'm saying I've never held an hourly job that I got paid for breaks. Also when I was salary as a corrections deputy we never got breaks. No breaks, no lunch.
-
I too do things on my time for the company because it's just my choice. When I take my 30 minute break I'm usually doing paperwork or something similar for work. I just see these breaks as pointless. Might as well do something productive while I'm on it.

This says nothing about being paid for breaks...

You can do 'company' work on your 'break' if you like, doesn't matter. You're paid percentage. Paperwork has to be done, doesn't it? You're not getting paid for it, are you?
130 million American workers get 2 10-minute PAID breaks a day. That's their time. Time-and-half after 40.
You object to that?
//Note: Paid breaks come under state law. Basic is 2 10-minute breaks every 4 hours. YMMV. (Your mileage may vary.)Last edited: Nov 8, 2014

I also did company work on my time when I was paid by the mile and when I was paid salary.
I don't get paid for doing paperwork, I'm a do it now instead of later type of person.
What state law? Certainly not Florida's. I don't know anyone in this state or others for that matter that get paid for breaks that are hourly . I know a few guys who are paid salary that get paid if they take breaks or not. Though they do roofing and a job like that I'd expect them to take breaks in this florida heat.
I worked an hourly job at a call center, worked 9 hour shifts since you get a one hour lunch break. You'd also get two 15 minute breaks in each of those 4 hour segments. All unpaid, had to clock out for breaks and lunch. -
Poor baby.
8 states require paid breaks, the rest do not. I was wrong about paid breaks being part of the minimum wage law. It's not. Overreached. http://www.dol.gov/whd/state/rest.htm
You can move to these states if you want paid breaks:
California
Colorado
Illinois
Kentucky
Minnesota (just a biffy break... however long it takes)
Nevada
Oregon
Vermont

its the nature of the truck driving trade. If what you already have isn't enough then 10 times the bells and whistles won't be enough either. Truck drivers have DOT rules and regs for them to enjoy. If you want a 40 hr a week job then go work in a warehouse or something.DrtyDiesel and G/MAN Thank this.

I couldn't care less about paid breaks. I see Florida isn't on the list.
-
You don't have to. Wal-Mart and Schneider do...

Will Con-way settlement of Quezada v Con-way be $21-million? Dunno. Could be more, could be less. But it's large enough to have to report to SEC.Last edited: Nov 8, 2014
