The whole citiation in a nut shell... the residents of Skaneatles don't want the trash haulers (200 daily so the say) rolling thru there high class town .... most of these drivers are paid by the tonage they bring to the land fill and the more you bring the more you get paid ....the state issues the haulers over weight permits on a lottery type base's for the trailers ..which must be matched to the tractor ..permits range from 80,000 lbs GVW to 117,000 GVW most are 104,000 GVW the problem is the guys like to stuff a little extra in to make more money ... they load in the city during the day late afternoon an travel back to the land fill after dot inspectors are done for the day making it easy to by pass all the scales .. they also run in packs 2-3 at a time when they get on I 81 to run north there are several short cuts to take thru the small towns enroute to the landfill,by avoiding the scale house farther north on I 81 and paying tolls on the thruway I 90 (15extra miles) some park an take there breaks on the back roads. this upsets the locals claming that there trailers leak unwanted fluids out while parked and could contaminate the watersheds or have an accident and spill something in the lakes close to the roads...any ways when they travel thru these small towns the trucks are loud and noisey and they stink . traveling in a convoy as most do makes it worse ..especialy during peak tourist season to the finger lakes area......What the New Govenor wants to do is reclasify municipal waste as Hazardous material to keep all the garbage haulers off the back roads and on designated hazardous routes I 81 and I 90 thruway .....this is also putting other trucking industrys at risk for harasment while doing local deliverys ... simple solution would be to close the land fill period let NY city deal with there own garbage problem ..........the idiots who allowed this supper land fill to be opened didnt reliaze the full impack of its potental for back firing down the road .............

thats bogus then we have to pay for all the gas. someone should protest.

Ok if they want to play that way, stop all big truck deliveries to that town. I.E. any groceries and gas to the qwiki mart, frozen dough and sauce to the pizza joint etc. See how quick they start b*tching about how unfair it is.

Submitted to the NYS Governor's web site by myself 5-14-08.
I send these thoughts to you as a respectful citizen, recognizing the importance of trucks in our daily lives whether we drive one or not. Regarding the subject restriction announced in todays news, it does not seem fair or logical to ban legal dimension vehicles from certain roads based on what they are hauling (in this case trash). Why should a legal dimension tractor tanker trailer hauling gasoline or a legal dimension tractor dump trailer hauling sand be allowed legally on the selected roadways you have targeted for this unusual restriction, but the same legal dimension trailer hauling trash not be allowed. That is simply not logical, fair or equitable treatment of *legal* vehicles. Legal vehicle dimensions are defined in NYS Vehicle and Traffic Law of course, but where is the legal description of 'trash' defined? It would seem if you want to ban large vehicles from certain roadways, you would have to do it based on dimensions, like weight, via a weight restriction, which is a simple, logical, legal and fair way to control traffic on local roads. After all, trucks are judged on weight and dimension, not the aesthetics of their load...

I haven't read the other messages posted here in the forum, this was my reaction to this morning's news. Legal vehicles are legal vehicles. And you know what they say, one mans trash is another mans treasure. -
I firmly believe that beating a leftist liberal lawmaker with a tire iron should carry a fine less than that of a parking ticket.
I think this BS is a means to force trucks onto the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$...Thruway...$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
More "crackdowns on loopholes".... -
but the them are the general public that will suffer! not the city officials or the city/state toll booth collectors funds, that are putting these crazy laws into affect.
-
protesting doesn't work anymore, we would look like radicals and the officials there in new york would just label us the new terrorists.
so if theres a plan B its lobbying by the company's putting pressure on those officials. orr taking them too the supreme court.
