I was going to choose Christmas to try and get home not Thanksgiving. I'm hoping to be in orientation next week

So I took the plunge and applied to transam. Got a phone call from a recruiter called "Jonette" and we talked for a bit and answered all my questions. I really wanted to say thank you to all the transam drivers over the past few months that posted comment on this feed. I think I read about 40 pages of threads about the company and from what Ive seen so far yall seem like a professional group of drivers. Hopefully I will find out over the next few days or weeks as to what my future holds with the company

Unless they have changed dramatically guys, company drivers never got to choose any holiday to be off. George, passport...has anyone offered you a choice? And you have to follow their policy on requesting home time or the mean little black box will kick it back totally. In almost 4 years the King was home for one Thanksgiving and one Christmas .....just because that is the way his home time fell. I don't want to give you any false hope, jay, and start you off on the wrong foot with TransAm.
But because of the circumstances and you just starting you may be able to negotiate something with them. The timing may also work in your favor. They will try to route you home shortly after you have completed training and are assigned a truck so that you can set up the truck with the things that you need. George, how many weeks were you out before you got to go home? You have the 3 days orientation, then out with a trainer for 11 days which in most cases is only a week, then back to the yard for a week to finish up and get your truck ......would that time out about right? Tell them about your grandmother and see if you can't work something out.

jay, are you sure that you can't find something local....even part time holiday work ....for now? TransAm will still be there after the first of the year and will still hire you. The money you make during the training process is probably comparable to what you could make working any job locally. This Christmas with your Grandmother sounds very important to you.....and is a time that you will never be able to get back once it has passed.

honeybadger, this is so sweet and so sad at the same time. I can tell you that it doesn't matter how old they get, they will still miss you when you are out working.....mine are 16 and 14 and still plan everything around when daddy will be home. The girls had never been bowling and some friends asked them to go a few weeks ago. They refused .....said they were going to wait until the King was home and could go with them. So, that is one of the little things that we did while he was home last week.

You are in my prayers too, friend. I know it is hard to be away from your kids.

    passport220 Thanks this.

I kills me knowing how much he's missing me. Once I out miles behind me I can clear my head and do my job, but without distractions it's just a cloud over my head.

Preplan is changed to a Maxton to Bentonville, AR cause it's live load and I'm still waiting for paperwork to clear through Kenworth.
