Good thing human eyes will never be replaced. Any external navigation tool, whether GPS or atlas, must be used in conjunction with our eyes. Remember that an atlas is only valid on the day the files used to create the printed document were locked and sent to the printer. After that, it's out of date, too. If you keep a GPS device updated, you will minimize errors, but you still have to use your eyes. GPS files change, roadways change, but highway engineers will always put a sign up.
Too many drivers use their GPS as the primary navigation tool, not their eyes. But that's what keeps Trucker Daily Fail in business!

Lets put it in another perspective then for you. If your truck company has a previous list of customers that you had been serving on time as you advertise. But now you want to get more customers and you tell them you'll deliver on time.
So you focus your fleet to them so new customers are on time. But you say the old customers are not as important and don't need to worry about the promise of on time service.
Is is that the right thing to do? Are they not as important as new customers? Mark as stated its a marketing decision with RM. Pure and simple math here. They make money on new sales and lose money on updates. -
This is one of those lose-lose situations. If they release them and they still have errors people will complain.
If they wait to make sure they got as much corrected as they can, people complain because they aren't released on a certain date.tow614 and SilverShadow Thank this. -
I agree with matt....
To also expand on denalidads point.. as soon as the updates are released they also will be out of date.. i am seeing highways that are currently being finished that i know they cant possibly have. -
It was false advertising. Even the programmers expected updates to happen more frequently than once a year -- otherwise they never would have spent their time creating that "your maps are out of date" warning message that they just disabled.
Imagine you buy a new car with an extended warranty and 1 year down the road the check engine light turns on. You take it to the dealership and they say "We're only working on new models at the moment, but, since your car is still able to drive around, how about we take out that bulb so you stop seeing the light?"
That is what Rand McNally is doing. If I was a litigious person, it would be extraordinarily easy to win a judgement against RM -- the facts of the case are clear. I just want them to honor their word and release the map update they've been sitting on since February.ghostrunner59 Thanks this. -
Micro soft has a seperate team to update reach old version of windows so owners of Vista, Win 7, and Win 8 all get updates on the first Tuesday of the month.

Just got a nearly 38mb update for my 510. Did not change version number, POI was one of the files i saw being updated. Still doesnt have the Shelby, IA Loves, or the Brooklyn, IA TA in POI in my quick searches; but hopefully all good stuff being done.
Do notice since I originally got the 510, it runs MUCH quicker & more reliably since 2yrs ago so the refining process is obviously at work.Mark Kling Thanks this. -
