Hope i dont open a canaworms here but i just cant wrap my head around 50cpm auto hauling, even if you get a bunch at a time you gotta run em down deliver every few hrs all over,alot of stress work paperwork calling and hope you get paid, but see alot of rigs hauling cars so idk, i think its got so competitive that the big haulers have bottomed the prices to the limit and they actualy killed the market for real profits and just put it to the poor drivers to pull there slack by volume.

From what I see on these boards the guys that are Lease Ops claim they are the real money makers in this industry... Especially the ones who lease a truck from the person who writes them there check every week...

I've found that a lot of truckers post BS about their rates. More like chest pounding. They tell half truths like I get $4.00 a mile but leave out the part where they got $1.25 in the opposite direction.
I could say I get $100 a mile which I did once. Moved a trailer 5 miles. Took more then 10 hours! A meat market loaded up a refer with meat in preparation for a hurricane that never hit. No inspection sticker, brakes frozen and registration out of date. The owner was all bent out of shape when I said $500. He was told that $2.50 a mile in NH is good and expected to pay $12.50pearcetrucking, tallmon, Semi-Truculent Hamish and 2 others Thank this. -

I'm amazed that you all worry about dollars per mile instead of figuring out a day rate and shooting for that. It's way easier to figure out your base costs on a per day basis than it is to figure it on an estimated amount of miles.

if Swif/Schneider/JB Hunt are only charging $1 to move that freight why do you think they'll pay you $3?

I'm on a load now thats paying $3400 for 890 mi from Frankfort Ky to Burlington Vt.
There is a reason its paying pretty good going up there,.. because I'm probably going to dead head 200 mi or take a cheap rate or heavy load or both just to get out of there. I took it because its only 15k lbs and I'm usually pretty lucky getting partials to go along with a low rate load when I come back out of there.
But yeah,. I hear guys bragging all the time. I took a load out of Idaho the other week that only paid $1.91 mi. Was not supposed to take up my whole bed,.. plus they were supposed to load me on their own. I ended up having to use my ramps so they could get the equipment on my bed. I was not happy. But thats trucking for you.
I do my best not to run loads for under $2 mi. Been pretty lucky as my average has been $2.46 per load for the year (Not counting partials added to main loads). I do get loads like this paying $3 - $5mi. But they are few and far in between. The money for me has been trying to add partials or grabbing hot shot loads to go along with my main load. Thats been the only way I see over $3 mi to the truck. Either that or go after Permit loads in the 50 - 55k lb range and beat the snot out of my equipment.
