I just drove bobtail for the first time last week. It was definately a different feeling and I missed having a trailer immediately, and a big 10-4 on the stopping distance.

Where is your CDL?

Make abundant use of your jake brake!

What that service brake it'll shprise you.

Keep an eye out for rough spots in the road approaching stops or potential stops. Once you get started "bouncing and braking", it's makes a relatively easy stop, not so easy. Accelerating and coasting on snow is not so bad, stopping requires much additional care. You will quickly find out which tractors have 1 or more brakes mal-adjusted. The ABS system can be a help and it can be a hindrance, depending on various circumstances.

Make sure you GOAL

No one mentioned that if it's a 10 speed or 13 speed, you DO NOT need to shift thru ALL the gears. Starting in 3rd and skip to 5th etc. Dumbest thing I'll ever see is someone starting in 1st and grabbing every gear while bobtailing. Keep your dashboard empty, because anything on it will fall off, for sure !

Love driving bobtail. I used to flip four wheelers out by racing them with all that torque 😋😋
