As a recruiter, I get calls DAILY from guys that are in company sponsored training programs. They all have a different story, but the answer they get from other trucking companies is always the same: "sorry buddy, wish I could help you, but..."
Many guys are under paid and can barely afford to eat. Some are sitting in hotels for weeks on end waiting for a trainer. but the worst ones have got to be the guys that have worked 7 to 8 months with the company at slave labor wages only to be let go before they fulfill their contract. Just because it wanst your choice to leave doesnt mean they will give you the cert! We (and most other companies) require you to have 1 year of experience if you do not hold a valid driving school certificate of completion. So the guy that gets terminated at 7 months has to start all over, and go back to school, this time out of his pocket so he can actually get the peice of paper. Its a sad story, but I hear it every day. litterally!
Do yourself a favor and stay away from these company sponsored training programs, borrow some money from your folks or whatever you need to do to go to a legit school, get the piece of paper and be on your way to a decent living!Chewy352 Thanks this. -
England will not pay for everything. They will ship you to their school and give you a bed. That's it. You will not be paid during school. After you get your license you will go out with a phase 1 "trainer" (hate to call them that. Apologies to all the real trainers out there) whos is supposed to teach you to drive. In reality he will be sleeping while you drive because he gets paid for every mile the truck goes. After 20k miles in phase 1 you go to phase 2 for 10k miles and they are supposed to teach you all the paperwork and business aspects. Phase one and phase 2 takes about a month n a half. While in phase training you make about $65 per day. Once all of that is done if you chose to go OTR they are paying about 25 cpm. Some of their regional routes pay 36 cpm but there are not that many miles in them.
I went through Englands school in Sep 2013. If I could do it all over again I would find any other way to get trained then a company sponsered school.lazygecko Thanks this.
