Oh I'm definitely taking the mileage into consideration (accessorial pay too). I've been seeing an ad recently from heartland express where they say they've raised their pay to .55 cents per mile for otr and .44 cpm for southeast regional. But the first thing I remembered was meeting a couple of people out here who spoke about not really getting good miles and I think I may have even read about that on this board too.
The issue with pay for me is like this.....
Folks with regular jobs get to go home every night and get their weekends off. So at the very least, they get 8 days off a month, not including all that time off they get at nights in their homes. And they get 4 solid weeks of pay.
Great!
Truck drivers, however, don't get to go home every night(us over the roaders at least). We live in that truck. We don't get weekends off. Don't know about anybody else, but I work every single day of the week. I took 4 days off a couple of weeks back after being otr for about 4 months and that messed up 2 paychecks for me. We take any time off and it messes up at least one paycheck. Heck, I had to pay for time off when I really think about it because I called around to different truck stops asking if they would be ok with me parking the truck at their spot for 4 days and they all said they would tow it. I had to park it at a TA where you have to pay to park. Cost me about 60 bucks to take my 4 days off after working day in and day out for 4 months.
I think at least $1,000/ wk net should be mandatory/ law for otr truck drivers to help to offset the financial hit we take for just taking some home time. $1500/ wk net actually sounds better to me, but since it seems that just $1000/ wk is asking too much, I don't even bother. lol
Oh and thanks for those suggestions.
what is a good company to check out in Fl, based close to tampa

Can't name all of them, but here's a few thousand a week jobs:
Lessors Inc.
Oakley Transport
Schneider Bulk
Superior Carriers
Tidewater Transit
Trimac Transportation
CTL Transportation
SVTN
Tribe Transport - maybe
There's lots of companies where you can make well over a grand a week.
Just wanting to stay East and run out of Florida, then Sunstate Carriers would probably work for you. Maybe someone else can post a few more.NoobiDriver Thanks this. -
Davis out of starke?
Who is the company that does the reefer loads for publix? Forget the name?
Something 'point'? -
-
Yeah it's davis that does a lot of publix loads now, you have to have at least a year, and you're home every 7 days
-
SORRY i forgot to add, i would like to have a rider also sometimes, whenever my women can make it out with me, what companies have a good policy for this,
and thank you guys for helping me out by providing places to check out -
Go with Heyl. I'm driving for them for over three years. No BS and very fair. I get $700/wk on average but I'm home every 7-10 days. Drivers, who are willing to stay on the road longer make more.
I've heard that they're hiring drivers straight from the school now. Not sure if that's true or not. -
Crete/Shaffer has a terminal in DeLand, Fl. Above average pay rate. They allow a passenger (ask about who can ride along).
Also, check out Watkins. I knew a driver there who was on a Tropicana dedicated account. He stayed busy.
